Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son left yesterday 9/4 from Oregon - Anyone else??
I received the short phone call that he arrived last night. I think thats when this all became real for us. My son has wanted to join the Navy since he was a little boy. I'm so proud, and selfishy SO SAD!!! I am thankful for this website, reading the stories and knowing I'm not the only one! Thanks to all of you Navy moms.

Hello kkbmom, My daughter left from Florida yesterday. When I hung up from the I made it call, I realized it would be a while until I heard her voice again. I am so used to picking up the phone and calling her or sending a quick text. So now I will do it old school and write,lol, it is amazing how long it has been since I really have written a letter. Please keep in touch and know you are not alone. and ps I do not think it is selfish to feel sad, we have worked hard at keeping them safe and secure for a lot of years and now that is taken out of our hands, and even though we know we want them to grow up and be responsible adults, it still is sad to let go. Thank you for sharing your feelings, it makes me realize I am not crazy:)

I know just what you mean. He's the reason I learned how to text in the first place!! :) I was trying to explain it to my daughter last night that throughout thier lives our family has always been a part of those BIG moments, it's just hard to imagine them having this totally life changing time and not being able to talk to them or watch or cheer them on!! I just hope this 3 week blackout goes by quickly i'm going to need my fix of that child!! :)
I thought if I started writing now, by the time I got his address.... He'd have a heck of a first mail day!!! LOL

My son left from nc on the 4th as well. I got the call and it almost sounded like an automated recording with his voice added in. This is soooo hard! I sat down with a pen and paper and kept thinking, how am I supposed to write something positive when I am so depressed. I had to take some movies back yesterday that he had rented before he left, and found myself staring at them and crying like a crazy woman in the parking lot. I almost didn't take them back, pathetic right? They say it gets easier, I am on the easier part!

Not pathetic at all, just being a mother. My arrived the 4th in GL and I was a mess that day and still on Wednesday. I have gotten better as each day goes by. Just think.....it has been one week already. Yippeee!!! I write him everyday since he left, making it feel like I am communicating. Just waiting on that letter with his address.
Have a good week. Facebook has a Navy for Moms page too as well as a PIR 11/2/12 page. This will be their graduation date.

I have written everyday too since he left. It makes me feel as though I am communicating with him. I am like you wanting to pick up the phone and call or text about something that has happened or waiting for his text everyday about 5:30 pm asking what time dinner was.......lol. Keep the faith.......they will be ok. It is us that I am worried about.....lol. Just think, a week has gone by already.

kIM72KB, Not pathetic AT ALL... I feel like my right arm has been cut off! I'm looking forward to the easier part! I'm really looking forward to the part where he can call and tell me whats happening, how he's doing, if it's all he thought it would be!!! That phone call was the worst, you explained it so well. He was using his deep manly voice too. (he'd probably die if he knew I just said that :) Last night I wrote in my letter to him about this site and how glad i am that his recruiter gave him the info about it. He knows more than anyone what I wreck I am. I knew the phone call was coming and I knew what he was going to say (we practiced it, for my benefit lol) so, I just kept telling him I loved him, I'm proud of him, and do what your told. Can't wait to hear from him again!
We're going to make it through this!! We've raised good stong sons & daughters, that says something about us!! :) -

Hi kkbmom- My son left from Oregon also, but he left on Aug 21st. It was a heartbreaking day! But it does get better and easier each day! Especially, now that I get to plan our PIR trip, which you will be able to do before you know it! It gives us parents something to look forward to! What part of Oregon are you from?

check out the facebook page PIR 11/2/12. Some of us are on it that all have kids graduating 11/2/12 (they all left that first week of September). WE can all keep in touch and meet up in GL.

Hi moms, just checking in on you all. I just told another mom that last night was a little bit easier since I knew she was finally going to be allowed to sleep:) So I went to sleep knowing she was probably sleeping and getting some rest finally too!! I know I am planning on going to the meet and greet and would love to meet you all. It's crazy to think none of us have met but we are all connected:)
