OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

The First Letter
To make a long story short, I haven't gotten it yet. And it's been over three weeks, and his mom got a letter from him on Wednesday even though I'm living closer to where he is than her, and I don't understand what's going on. Is there a limit to how much he's allowed to write? Is it possible that the letter just got lost in the mail? I don't want to think about the idea that he just didn't write me anything.
I guess I'm really just asking if anyone can tell me explicitly about how letter-writing goes on a SR's end of the communication process? Has anyone else gotten a letter really late? What's going down?

They do have a limited amount of time to write. They aren't allowed to write letters until the 3rd week (the 2nd sunday after they get there). They get holiday routine for 5 hours where they can do pretty much whatever they want in the barracks. Sleep, shower for more than 1 minute, write, etc. A lot of people use it to study or shine their boots, go to church. So, yes, it's 5 hours, but it's the only free time they have all week, so they have to cram a lot into it. Also, some letters sit in the mail room for days before they are mailed out. Maybe he finished your letter after he finished the one to his mom and yours is sitting in the mail room.

They can usually write on most Sundays and then on Tuesday and Thursday's after 3-1 day.

When my husband was in boot camp I had the same problem. His parents got their letter the same day everyone else in their division got letters but I didn't get mine until early the following week (like Monday). It sucked and there was no reason why at all. It just got delayed in the mail or something but I got it and eventually he told me he mailed them at the same time. So I'm sure yours is coming!

please don't feel bad if you haven't gotten it. My parents didn't get mail until I was almost out. Then they got all of my letters at once. It's really hard to get letters out. You only have a little bit of time on sundays, and I was always so busy I could only write a couple sentences before it was time to go.

rxl100 the tuesday thing depends on the division. my division was only allowed to write on sundays from wake up to noon. That included time to finish shining boots, ironing, writing letters and studying. You don't always have time to write everyone you'd like to. My letters got lost almost until graduation. They got them really late.

It might be on its way. They say it can take 5-10 days (each way) for the letters to get to their destinations :(

Thank you! For awhile, I felt like I really was going to cry, but every time I thought I would, it just came out as laughter. I was so ecstatic to hear from him. I got a call a few days ago and he told me that he'd sent about five by then, so getting them all was almost like divine providence!
