I'm super excited that my son has sworn in and has a Boot Camp Report Date of September 26, 2012. I hope that through this site I can meet other moms who will also have sons and daughters that will be there at the same time.

My son is leaving on Sept. 25th and we are excited for him but a little anxious as well. There is a group for families with sailors leaving for boot camp by month. You will find other there that will be leaving around the same time. Good luck to you and your family. Looks like PIR should be right around Thanksgiving time for this group.

Hello Ctownmom,

Thank you for the information. There is so much information here it's a little overwhelming. I joined the Sept. group. We live in the Suburbs of Chicago, so I guess now my son is leaving on the 25th to stay overnight at MEPS and ride the busses to all the local airports picking up the other sailors swearing in and going to BC on the 26th. It's exciting and I'm hopeful that they PIR before Thanksgiving so that I can make the drive north to spend some time with him for the holiday.

Hi there my son will leave for BC on 9-25-12 as well. If PIR falls around Thanksgiving that will be a great time. Wishing you and your son well!

Kirsi, you have 2 boys in the Navy, that's impressive! What do you feed your family that they all want to be American Heros? LOL! I find it so funny that all these kids report on different days. I don't know if that means that they will all be together for BC or not? This is my first time, and this site has been a great source for information. However it's almost overwhelming. I'm excited for them all, good luck to your boy too.

Congrats to you and your son. I will be at MEPS with my son on 9-25-12 as well. Wishing your son much success.

My son leaves from San Diego on 9/26/2012, I have been counting down the days so many feelings going on with me! Thankfully I know what to expect thanks to the internet!

They told my son that he would spend the 26th riding the bus back and forth to the airports picking up other recruits before reporting to Great Lakes. Maybe he'll meet your son on that bus. LOL

Hi everyone, my son leaves from Miami, Fl on 9/27. I am very proud but very sad/anxious at the same time. Don't know how I/we will get through it,but I am so glad I found a group that will be experiencing the same things at around the same time. Looking forward to getting to you you ladies.

Hello Ladies,

My son as well leaves next week from Phoenix, he was just here to say hello before going out to dinner with all his friends, again.  I am feeling a bit jealous, well, not just a bit.  Friday we had a going away party with close friends and family, Sat, was his going away with his friends for a BBQ, Sunday was brunch with the out of town family members, today was house cleaning.  I was hoping to see him a lot before he leaves, but he has plans everyday with friends till he leaves.  I really cant believe how hard this is.......  Good luck to all you moms, I'm really going to try to hold up for him.  NO crying till he leaves.............

Hi Kawilde,

I know it might seem funny about the "no crying till he leaves", but I have to tell you that sons seem to really appreciate it overall.  My oldest son left for boot camp last October, and he specifically asked me not to cry -- that it would make it harder on him to leave and he would just keep thinking about it.  Anyway, I ABSOLUTELY did not cry and have not cried in front of him since then.  After, YES, but not in front of him.   He actually thanked me the last time we saw him.  He said it was easier for him to walk away when he knew I was okay.

My second son will be leaving for boot camp next Feb. and I'm committed to doing the same thing for him.  Anything to make it easier on them, right?  It might be hard, but know you're not alone.  We're here for you to cry with as well as celebrate with when you get the good news!!!

Hugs!!

-Janet

Thank so much Janet for the good words.......

I got that dreaded "I'm not sure this is the right thing for me" comment yesterday and my heart dropped. I was told that they all go through that momentary doubt right before they leave, but I still wasn't prepared for it. By this morning he seemed to be a little better and we are still on track to leave next Tuesday for the hotel overnight. But he's struggling with his weight and was told yesterday that he needed to lose 5 more pounds to be well out of the danger zone. He's 6' 1" and 194 pounds, but they want him at 188. He had been saving a big piece of his going away party cake for after dinner last night and I threw it away before he even got home. He was really bummed. I hope this all gets better, because so far it's kinda sucked.
