So this might be a very stupid question to ask, but I'll go ahead and throw it out there anyway!

My boyfriend wants to take one of his guitars with him to A-school and beyond once he starts (his PIR is 26 Oct). He has two electrics and one acoustic (really wants to take the acoustic). Will there be enough storage for him in the dorm to have his acoustic guitar with him? Or does he need to ask his Captain what he is allowed to bring? I'm sure he won't have much time to play it with training and all, but it's a passion of his (luckily there's a Guitar Center about 20 minutes away from the base :P)

I do know he's allowed to have his cell phone, laptop, books, etc. But we weren't sure about the larger items.

He will be stationed in Great Lakes through C-School, so not much moving.

Thanks!

Our son recently came home and picked his up to take back with him (he's now at a school 4 hrs away). There were also people with one at his first school in Pensacola. The thing is, it's going to have to be stored in his locker - he's not allowed to have "gear adrift" - stuff left out - in his room.

There also might be rules about him being allowed to play it in his room - he might have to play it outside. (Most of the Sailors that my son knows play sitting outside, hanging out in the smoke shack area - even if they don't smoke.)
I should add - my son is currently in Dam Neck in VA.

Thanks for the info guys! I'm sure he will be happy to have it no matter where he keeps it :)

Yup! He can definitely have his guitar! :) My boyfriend is in school right now at Great Lakes and his roommate has his guitar and he plays it. So yeah, let me him know!!

So I just got my first letter from him. Unfortunately, the way he was writing sounded like he hasn't received any of mine yet. I sent them the day I got his address. But anyway... in the letter he told me not to bring him anything onto the bootcamp base or else he would be in serious trouble. Does this mean I can bring him his things after he checks into A-school and all? His dad and I already started packing a bag of the things we know he'll need (phone, charger, laptop, etc.)

Yes once he checks in to A school he can have those things. Don't bring them to graduation. Either bring them to the airport when he leaves or when you drop him off at base at night if he's staying in great lakes.

He's staying in Great Lakes, so I will leave his stuff in my hotel room until he calls me to come pick him up :) Thanks so much!!!

He's my boyfriend. Lol. His family and I are very close so we've been planning the trip and all. Before my boyfriend left, he asked us to prepare him a bag or back-pack full of essential things (shower supplies, a few pieces of clothing, phone, laptop, etc.)

Sorry about that!

It's okay! I understand. I'm working full time and going to school part time for 3 classes and also trying to keep up on the posts here and write letters every day/night and everything else I have to do. lol. But, at least I'm busy so the days and weeks are flying bye! I can hardly believe it's almost been a month since he's left!

It already makes me wonder how I've lasted this long without him. He used to go to him moms for the summer, so I couldn't see him, but we could still talk through texting and Skype and all. Plus I was majorly sick and sleeping like 19-20 hours a day. Lol.

What are you studying in University?
