Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My fiancé left on the 5th of September and should be done by mid-early November. I THINK he's going to Pensalcola for AV after that. Does anyone know if they can come home for Christmas and if so for how long?

I was wondering this, too,  My husband left on 9/12 (one week down, 8 to go!) and should have his PIR in mid to late November.  Then he is going to A School in Great Lakes as well.  I have heard that the place becomes a ghost town for the two weeks around Christmas, so I am hoping...

I haven't gotten the letter yet to know his ship & dv or PIR date...but I am thinking that I might call his recruiter today and see if he can give me any inside info :)  But maybe we will see each other at PIR, I will let you know! :)

They get ten days ~ two weeks of leave.  The staff WANT the students to go home so they get time off too.  It is leave, which is their earned time off.  They earn 2.5 days each month from the day they shipped off.  If they do not have enough days on the books, they can borrow. However, this can put them at zero and then they can't take leave after A school.  A balancing act which depends on the length of the school.  

Don't book tickets until they have firm dates.  Always have them back a day early.

Anti M is right. From what my boyfriend said, their Christmas leave is going to be from December 21st to January 7th (He's at Great Lakes) However, they need to be back by the 6th. No word yet on when they can start filling out the forms for leave during Christmas, but I'm hoping it will be soon because flights book early for the holidays (and airports are madhouses anyway!)

DH's recruiter told me something about him being able to work at the recruiter's office for 5 days during that time so he doesn't burn all of his leave at once.  Is that something that a lot of people do?

Something to keep in mind, is that RAP duty and HARP duty are not allowed to be used during the holidays. 

RAP duty is ONLY used between "A" School (or "C" School) and their first duty station.  HARP duty is ONLY used once at their first command.

Even if the recruiter says, yes they can use it...the school will still charge them the whole leave time that they where gone (and not credit them for the 5 days they work with the recruiter) as it is against policy.  So yes the recruiter gets a free worker, but the Sailor still gets charged for all the leave.

If the Sailor thinks I am wrong, they are free to go talk to the CCC (they wear the badge like in my picture) and ask for approval to use RAP duty.

The program is not supposed to be used at the holiday stand down, but can be used after A school.    The reason is they aren't student sailors once they leave A school.  During the holiday stand down, they ARE students, so not eligible.   If they use up their leave at Christmas, they still can come home for a few days before their new duty station.
