My daughter just left MEPS a few hours ago. Her job will be LS and she is shipping out on Oct 3, 2012.

Anyone else?

Yes, my son :)  We just found out his date is also Oct 3.  He was November, but his date was changed with his new contract.  Now I have to get serious about all of the next steps.  Congrats Jessica!

Now that it's getting closer, I find myself tearing up for no reason.  I know every kid has to leave the nest and it's a good thing, but I am just going to miss him so much!  The initial lack of communication is going to be the hardest I think.

she leaves the same day as me :)

My son is supposed to leave on the 3rd as well, but we'll see.  They've changed his ship date twice now...  :(

My son leaves for boot camp on 10/3. I already miss him. I'm so excited so him, but am so sad about him bring do far away....it hurts.

I'm right there with you, Kim!  Although I've had 19 yrs to prepare for this, I'm still not ready for him to leave.  I break out in tears for no reason at all, I hug him a lot, I keep stroking his long black hair knowing that in a few short weeks it will all be gone.  Stay busy!  Find a support group, have a project to do, find a new hobby.  It won't take your mind off of the fact that your son is gone totally, but enough that you are not a basket case.  Many others on here say it gets easier with time.  I hold onto that hope and know that I too will get through this.  So will you!  Email as often as you like, ok!?  My email is saleens72573@yahoo.com

Thank you! Mine is KimDugay@yahoo.com. Time is sure winding down.
I'm right there with you ladies. I started getting short with people closest to me - I so hope I won't be a wreck forever. I've started volunteering for everything I can during that time to keep busy. I am working out the day to see him swear in at meps. I guess I've been on this site long enough, it's finally my turn soon

My son leaves for BC on October 3rd too.  He will eventually be on a submarine. I just joined Navymoms yesterday after being hit hard by the realization that he will soon be gone.

My son's ship date is also 10/3, but tomorrow morning he'll go to MEPS in Denver... Tuesday he'll be processed... Wednesday he'll fly to Illinois.  I keep thinking to myself, this is the last night I will have my son home with me before he ventures out into the real world. Everyone keeps telling me what a great opportunity he has by joining the Navy. I completely agree. Most of the people saying this is not a Mom. Missing him will be a separate issue in itself. I just can't stop crying.  I don't know how I am going to manage the pain in my heart. I will do my best to keep my feelings from him. I don't want him to be sad or worry...

My boyfriend left Oct 3rd and he is eventually going to be on a sub too! My boyfriend is going to be an LS, so he'll be in Mississippi for a bit before going to Groton.

Wow-- I didn't realize the dates were changed so frequently. My son got bumped up a month also and ships on the 4th. I wasn't ready, and it hit me hard yesterday when I got the news. I'm so very proud of him, but there's an ache inside...ya know?
