JUST FOUND OUT PIR FOR MY SON IS NOV 21 DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH TIME I WILL HAVE WITH HIM SINCE THIS IS SO CLOSE TO HOLIDAY SO I CAN BOOK FLIGHT

sincla01 - my son's PIR was over Thanksgiving week last year.  I don't know that it will be the same for your son this year - but last year we got to see him after PIR on Wednesday and had to have him back on base by the specified time 8 or 9 I think.  Then we got to pick him up on Thanksgiving morning and spend the day with him.  They had to be back on base - but I'm not sure what time - my son had duty that evening so I had to drop him off earlier than the set time back.  They left for their A schools on Friday morning.  If your son is going to A school at Great Lakes you typically would have the whole weekend with him - although I think they still may have to be back on base in the evenings - I'm not sure about that.  Hope this helps you plan.

You won't know until the I'm a sailor call the week of PIR. Don't forget to ask for your SRs flight info on the call. My son didn't fly out till Sunday. So we had about 8 hours on Friday and then the whole day on Saturday. But most leave sat morning for a school. Plan on arriving on Thursday evening and spending all day on Friday. You can meet your sr at the airport on sat and give phone laptop etc. but it is at 2-3:00 am. Then you can hang with them till they fly out. Hope that helps.

PIR is different Thanksgiving week and is on Wednesday, not Friday.

Where is he going for "A" School or training after PIR?

If he is staying in GL, he will call you on Wednesday after he checks in at the TSC, which takes about 3-5 hours, and will have Liberty until Liberty expires that night at 10, but you must drop him off about 30 minutes before to give him time to get to his barracks. Then he will have daytime Liberty (pick up 6:30 or 7 am and drop off 9:30 pm or so) each day of the 4 day weekend, or at least they have in the past. You can check on the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page (clickable link) to see if anything has been posted about it yet.  Plan to arrive at GL on Tuesday and go to Sarge's Meet and Greet that evening (and perhaps one of the other two) and plan to leave late Sunday or on Monday to have the most time with him.

If he flies out, your Sailor will have Liberty on the day of PIR from about 10:30 when Liberty is called until sometime in the evening (usually around 8 to 9 pm) and he will need to be back at the RTC about a half hour before Liberty expires to be certain to get back to the ship on time. He MAY have daytime Liberty for Thanksgiving and fly out on Friday due to flight availability issues for the holiday. This has happened in the past, but I haven't seen anything official on this yet. Only your Sailor will know his flight arrangements for certain. He will let you know what airport he will fly out of and when so you can meet him at the airport and spend time with him before his flight and give him his cell phone, laptop, and other things that will fit in his black backpack. Plan to arrive at GL on Tuesday and go to Sarge's Meet and Greet that evening (and perhaps one of the other two) and plan to leave late Friday or on Saturday to give you the most time with your Sailor.

We have never been up to that area before. Im sure my daughter might have ideas but what are good things to do while up there in late fall? I am pretty sure her A school is at Great lakes so it would be the long week-end.

What is her rating (job) going to be?

Whatever you do, it will be special for you and your sailor.  We went to Cuneo Mansion and Gardens in Vernon Hills and have some great pictures on the grounds and by the lake from October 2008.  Now it's $10 a person, $9 for seniors and students, and free for military.  Take your cue from your Sailor on what to do. My Sailor wanted to chill out at the hotel, make phone calls and have computer time and visit, go to a mall, and see a movie and go out to eat--McDonald's for french fries, Starbucks for "real" coffee and a pizza place, The Silo, because the RDC recommended it.  Lots go to Navy Pier and other things in Chicago, but some have ended up late getting back and that is NOT something you want to do.  The Gurnee Mall is popular and there are also malls in other cities nearby.
Sarge will give you info if you go to his Meet and Greet.  Here is the link: PIR 11/21/2012 SARGE'S THANKSGIVING MEET AND GREET

I am wondering if my daughter will be in this PIR date also?  Ship 14 div 013.  I haven't figured out how to navigate around this site yet. and need all the info that I can get.

sarah -Welcome!

Here is a direct link to your PIR GROUP:

Here is something that may help you navigate. There is a lot on it so what I will do is post a direct link on the Comment Wall on your Profile Page. Then you can just click it anytime you like.

Survival Guide for Navy For Moms Newbies

Down near the middle is a section titled :" STEP 4 - Get to know the Navy For Moms site."

Yes, she is in the Thanksgiving TG.  Join the group, PIR 11/21/2012 TG 02 – 11 Divisions (009-018 & 902), to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.  Know that Divisions 013 and 014 are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 together, so look for others with loved ones in either division.  There is a discussion within that group for the two divisions.

I see you have joined Boot Camp Mom's; you may also want to join, or at least check out, PIR Reference Information and New Members Stop Here.

If you have not recived the form letter (which may or may not have the correct PIR date) and have gotten the address from the recruiter, double-check the address the recruiter gave you against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp.  Recruiters sometimes give a generic address for the RTC and if the street address is not correct, then mail can be delayed for up to 3 weeks.

Sara, my daughter is also on ship 14, div 013 and yes their PIR is 11/21/12...will you be able to make it? This sight is amazing!! Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.  So glad to hear from someone from her ship/division and mom of a female sailor :)

I've been wondering the same thing. My son's PIR is the 21st and I'm sure hoping in addition to Wed eve we can also spending Thanksgiving day with him.

The RTC has posted that you will have Thanksgiving with your Sailor.  Those flying out will fly out on Friday.

Where is he going for "A" School or training and/or what will his rating (job) be?
