Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son leaves Oct. 23, 2012......
Hi All - my son leaves 10/23/12 for boot camp! It seems like it has been forever since he signed his contract on 1/26/12, but now it's October and I can't believe we only have 22 days left with him. Trying to get everything wrapped up and spend some nice family time together.

My son just got moved up to the 23rd from the 29th. Sounds like this is happening to a fair number of future sailors. Trying to get everything wrapped up as well. Honestly I hope that the date does not change again....

Each time my son talks to his recruiter I hold my breath - I so keep thinking that they will move up his date too. So far it has stayed at 10/23....I know it all depends on the "needs of the Navy" but I sure hope I can keep these last couple of weeks with my son!

My wife was so disappointed when we got the move up call... She had Hawaii plans with him that had to be cancelled and she feels short-changed before we really even got going. She was ready to "call someone" --lol-- And I had to talk her down from the ledge.

My son leaves the 23rd, moved up from the 29th also. I was sad to learn I have one less week with him. Although my son-in-law is in the air force and now they might be able to make it home for graduation, so maybe it's a good thing it got moved up. :)

My son got moved up from the 28th to the 21st. I know how you feel. I sat at my desk at work and cried. It was only one week. But, it screwed with my emotional calendar.

Hey Lynn - I just saw this in BootCamp Moms. I haven't read it yet, but it sounds like it should explain leave: "To come home for a visit they have to take leave. here is a good blog post explaining leave and liberty very well. http://www.navyformoms.com/profiles/blogs/leave-vs-liberty".

Well, here's hoping that all these "move-ups" mean a PIR before Christmas... And maybe a little Christmas Leave???
I hear that Chicago is a lot like San Diego at Christmas..... Except its cold, windy and miserable. LoL -

Lynn - I keep seeing different info on whether or not they will have leave. I have seen posts that say they have to report to their A school first and that some schools then do shut down for Christmas holiday. Whether or not they actually get to leave I am not sure.......
