Hi All - my son leaves 10/23/12 for boot camp!  It seems like it has been forever since he signed his contract on 1/26/12, but now it's October and I can't believe we only have 22 days left with him.  Trying to get everything wrapped up and spend some nice family time together.

Teresa - from what I keep reading everyone says count 9 Fridays.  That would put us at 12/21, but I know that I read a post from someone who's daughter left at the same time last year and I think she said because of the holidays that it was longer and it might not be until 12/28.  Then of course there are "push" divisions which means they push them thru in 7 weeks!  Really hard to say until they get there and we get that letter.  Sooooo hard to try to plan around the holidays!!!!  And plane tix are going to be through the roof! YIKES

I'm grateful we are within driving distance.  But we're trying to get my daughter home at Christmas time from Texas and trying to wait for his graduation date to buy her plane ticket, so I'm right there with ya.

Where do you buy phone cards?

To get calling cards (actually a phone number and PIN), go to http://callsforrecruits.org/ to find out more. You email Ronny and Anna at CallsforRecruits@gmail.com and ask for the calling cards. They will email you around 12, but will send more if you need them. Each PIN that is provided is a onetime use number. You can use the form found on the site to write each PIN on for your recruit. Some people print out the form and then cut out the squares and write a PIN on each and staple them together. The recruit can then tear one off to use or give away. If you are able, please make a donation at the site to help with the cost of the cards.

Is anyone else leaving out of Louisville?  I plan on going there to see my son off, was wondering if anyone else was going?

You hang in' in B'smom? One week to go, I know it's an emotional time. In some ways I'm glad his date got moved up so we had a few weeks less of dreading the day.

But it's all gonna be okay. Ya know?

Hey Jack - yeah I'm doing ok - we had the his party yesterday so I guess it's for real now!  Had a nice time with family and friends - it was a beautiful day.  Still have some last minute things to do but the list is getting smaller.

Today he is going to breakfast with grandma and grandpa and then to the shooting range with a co-worker. Tomorrow his girlfriend is surprising him with a trip to Disneyland.  We got everything wrapped up with the credit union.....now if I could just get him to sort through his clothes and finish up his room I would be real happy!

I can't believe it's only a week away........

I hope you and your family are doing well!

You are lucky he let you have a party.  Our son wants no part of a party.  Finally came out, he just doesn't want to say good bye.   Well, it's just a little over a week.  He's reading like crazy on his kindle because he won't be able to at BC.  And I'm trying like crazy not to cry too much.

Guess we'll be among the ranks with a graduation and PIR date in the very near future.  Hang in there this last week.

Our Grandson is leaving on the 23rd and we are in the same boat (oops ship) need to sort his clothes and

pack up everything he won't we needing....can't seem to get him moving....any suggestions...

My son had his girlfriend come over about a month or so ago and they did a pretty good cleaning of his room......then everything stopped!  He still needs to sort through some clothes and decide what he wants to do with some of his stuff but he is telling me now I can do what I want with it!  I want him to get together some of his favorite shirts, etc that I can send once he moves on to "A" school.  It's on his list of things to do this week!  I think they probably put it off because they know once they do it it makes it all seem so real (and final!).  Our son and your grandson should be flying out together!

I cant believe its almost here, so not ready for it!! Trying to finish up last minute things this week.

Can they get an account set up with the navy before they leave or will they have to use the bank accounts they have now until after graduation? My son isnt the best about planning this kind of stuff.
Enjoy the last 6 days everyone!

My son opened an account at Navy Federal Credit Union and they gave him a form to take to boot camp for his direct deposit.  They also told him that if you have an account with NFCU your deposit will actually be one day earlier than if you are with a commercial bank...... They were very helpful and friendly there.
