Hi All - my son leaves 10/23/12 for boot camp!  It seems like it has been forever since he signed his contract on 1/26/12, but now it's October and I can't believe we only have 22 days left with him.  Trying to get everything wrapped up and spend some nice family time together.

TODAY IS THE DAY!!!!   My son gets on a plane for the very first time.  I received my last text from him it said "ily".  Gonna miss my boy - can't wait until 12/21!!!!!!  Only 91/2 weeks to go!

Praying for all you moms and dad's that said good bye this morning.  We are headed to enjoy lunch at my son's fav fast food place, Checkers and then later today we drop him off with his recruiter.  We will get to see him tomorrow at the swearing in, then we'll be in the "wait for the call" game too.   Praying your days go quickly and your calls come speedily so you can get a good nights sleep.  Remember, the latest PIR could be is December 28 (depending on Christmas stand down) and that's only 66 days from now.

Have about 45 min before we head to recruiter office. Son & I have been chilling, watching Looney Tunes and getting the last bit of his room sorted out. Son will stay in Hotel tonight, and we can go visit & take him to dinner. He will be sworn in tomorrow morning (which hubby & I will attend) and then off to the airport for his first airplane trip. Getting a little misty-eyed, but 'sucking it up'. :)

Dropped my son off at the recruiters office yesterday and watched him swear in this morning. What a proud moment, but sad also. We were able to take him out to dinner last night and eat lunch with him today. Now waiting to get the call saying hes landed safely. Looking forward to December!

Has landed in San Francisco....will board around 4:30 and then off to Chicago...they sure are having a long day...Will be anxiously awaiting the late night phone call tonight....

Hi terri - we just got home.  Had a nice time.  I got some pictures of your grandson and will try to get them to you in  the next couple of days.  We went to dinner last night at Bully's East in San Diego, then this morning got to MEPS at 8:15.  Got to spend the morning there while they did processing.   When they did the swearing in I went up to your grandson and told him that you and I had been emailing and I was going to take a few pictures of him. He was a real trooper!  After the swearing in they did some more briefing and then it was to the travel room.  Groups were assigned (our son was made one of the group leaders because he is one of the oldest).  At that point it was 12:30 and our sons plane was leaving at 1:45 so it was quick - onto the bus and get to the airport.  We thought we were going to have time to hang at the airport but there wasn't time.  Hubby dropped GF and I off at the curb and we ran inside for a few minutes before they went through security......barely had another 5 or 10 minutes with him and then he was off! He lucked out that his group is on a direct flight to Chicago. Supposed to land at 7:40 chicago time.   Figure we might get a text in about 45 minutes or so saying they landed.....then don't know how much communication from then on! All in all a great day and very PROUD of our son and all the other recruits.  It was a very nice day!

I got a call from my son a little over an hour ago saying he had arrived safely. It was a very short call, said i could expect another call in about 3 weeks. And in about a week i should get a letter and then his belongings after that. And that was it! Hang in there everyone!

Momma Jeri - where is your son leaving from?  We dropped our son off at 4:30 with his recruiter and we will be headed to the swearing in tomorrow morning.   Ours is in Springfield, MA.  Where will you be?

bclmomct - our son is leaving from Omaha, NE. He is still at MEPS; his plane doesn't leave until later this afternoon (only a 50 min trip by air). Spent all morning with him and watched him get sworn in. He said his nerves got to him last night, so he didn't sleep well; was going to hang with the 3 other recruits and try to grab a catnap...LOL.

Good luck to all our recruits!

Hi Momma Jeri - we spent the morning with our recruit.  They left MEPS at 11:50 for a 2:15 flight.  He didn't want us to go to the airport.  There were two young women that were leaving also, neither one of their parents were going either, so hopefully they had some time to get to know each other and have a friend once they arrive in Chicago.

Our son did actually say he slept well last night, so we were thankful for that.  He had been kind of mopey and moody the last few weeks at home, but the last 3 or 4 days, he has been very excited, so we are excited to see what the Navy does for him.

See ya at PIR

Hi bclmomct - son left MEPS around 11:30a to head to airport. He didn't want us to go to the airport, either. His flight wasn't until about 5:30p and should have just landed in Chicago. He still has his cell, so will probably text or call hubby soon. :)

Hope you get your call soon.   We had gotten a call from our son from the airport, which was very unexpected and we talked about 5 minutes.   Then he called our landline with the scripted call while we were out to dinner and running errands.  But that's okay, because now his voice message is on our answer machine and we can replay it any time we are missing him.
