So it's less than a month before my son leaves for BC and because we've never been through this we didn't even know that he needed a calling card. So I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any other important information to fill me in on before he leaves. If so please share!!!!!

Oh my goodness, I know what you're saying. The time is flying and it's making me sad. I really wish he was back in NC with us. It's not fair that his last two weeks before boot camp and he's stranded in a hurricane! I mean really!! Anyway, thanks for the prayers we really appreciate them. I will keep you posted...as of now he is without power. He claims its not bad but he doesn't want me freaking out! He handles things well and down plays situations like this....if it were my daughters, they would have me thinking they were covered in water. Lol. Gotta love them! I will talk to you soon!
Oh yeah....enjoy each and every second of the next two weeks!!!!!!!!

Oh My! Hope Patrick got inland some and is in a nice warm place. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. This is good practice for us for when they are out at sea. My son is just across town and he got a bit irritated with me when i called earlier to tell him there are 50mph winds and to be careful driving home. Keep us posted on how your son is fairing thruout the hurricane. Hope he will not have to go without power. Take care.

Hey ladies I hope your doing ok! I know that was really difficult but we've made it through that now we can count down to the first phone call!

Hi Shanes Mom,

My son leaves November 19th( We are from Michigan)I feel the same way all of you do.....We have hardly any info, so this site has been so nice. Thank you all for making me feel like I am not alone in my worries...

xxoo

hi is your son going to be going to BC on an airplane or a bus? I feel like I am more worried about them getting from the MEPS office to Great Lakes than just about anything else. I trust that once the Navy has physical custody of them they should be pretty safe. What job did your son choose? Good Luck and enjoy the next week and a half. We are havin a little farewell for Shane, my husband is a little unsympathetic about that saying "didn't we just give him a graduation party this summer" so we are trying to be low key. Are you giving your son a farewell send off? Is your son your first to leave home? What made him decide on the Navy? How were you with the initial decision? Take care!

Hey Shane's mom... Patrick is going to be a gunners mate, hes going by plane and he chose navy because he did a year NJROTC and loved the structure and when he was checking out all branches he kept having dreams about the Navy so he said the dreams must mean something! We're new to NC so we don't know too many people to have a big farewell but he's going out with his friends Friday night and we'll have some family here Sunday for dinner. My daughter whos 23, got married at 18 to a sailor so she left home 5 yrs ago And it was sad but shes back. she wasnt home for the holidays that year but at least i was able to send her gifts and skype with her, we cant do that with the boys. That lasted just under 2 years. I'm sorry your husband doesn't see things the same way you do, but sometimes some men just don't get it! Hang in there and don't worry he'll make it there safely! Is he going by bus or flying? Patrick has to be at recruiters by 2pm Monday...then recruiter takes him to hotel and they leave the next day(Tuesday) the 13th! Sooo sad!

How are you doin? I guess we are at the "push him out of the nest" edge now. We had a fun little party last night and I had the baker at Walmart make a cake with an aircraft carrier flight deck and toy airplanes. He was so happy to do it for me with Veterans Day stuff going on at the store. I was so impressed I didn't think a Walmart cake decorator would care. I wrote a little note to the manager to show my appreciation and they called to say "Walmart is proud to serve those who serve" I started to cry and I think I freaked out the poor kid who called.  My son said OMG Mom you are so corny ..so I had to nix the idea of temporary tatoo anchors on everybodys forearms...lol. Anyway I will send my kid off tomorrow and I just hope I have done a good enough job that he makes it through BC and becomes a sailor in the United States Navy!

Anchors Away My Friends

Well, I'm ok I guess. As good as I can be. I seem to be the strongest in my family, which is very unlike me.mi keep praying that I don't crumble at the end. That poor Walmart kid....hahaha. We have to bring Patrick to recruiter for 2:00, then he goes to a hotel for the night but he's allowed to go out until 10:00 so were all going to pick him up, hit the area mall and go to Cheesecake Factory for dinner. The malls about 1.5 hrs from the house so that's not too bad. Gonna be sad for all of us today! Stay strong ladies.....stay strong!

I have been so emotion this morning has been nothing but tears. I have to take him to his recruiter inless than two hours, but will be driving up to see him at his hotel later for one last hug before he goes. We had a party last night with family and friends which was an early Thanksgiving and turned out great. This will be his first time away from home and the first time since he was tiny that he has been in airplane. When I told him he had to take his shoes off to pass security he looked at me like I was crazy. I sure hope he finds his gate ok, Atlanta airport can get crazy. I am so proud of our guys and gals who choose to serve our country. My son is amazing and I know he will be fine, but it wont stop me from all the worry's that go along with being a mom. I am already looking foward to seeing him in January.

Hey Tracy me too...these emotions are horrible. My parents are in poor health and they took this so hard. I thought my dad was going to have a heart attack last night. Thank god he didn't and he calmed down a bit. My sister refuses to say good bye! My oldest daughter has bipolar and does NOT handle change well at all so were very worried what our final kiss and hugs tonight at hotel will be like. Prayers to all of us and our children who make the choice to serve the country. I hope we all get to meet at PIR! Keep in touch ladies. The phone call is next and then the letters! Tale to you soon.
Hello ladies, hope you're all enjoying your time with the family. Time is really flying bye quickly! Patrick finally made it home safely, his dad changed his flight to leave out of Philly instead of Newark, NJ. And everything went smoothly. I just want to say thanks for the well wishes and prayers. I know the next 12 days will go crazy fast but I'm gonna try to enjoy the heck out of them and I'm sure you'll be doing the same. Keep in touch!,
