Ladies, I am distraught. My SR and I spoke on the phone on Tuesday, and all he wanted was to come home. And then, when I received the letter he wrote and sent on Sunday, all he talks about is getting out of the Navy and being home with me every night. I have no idea what to do, especially since I can't call him up and talk about it... I have to say it all in a letter, and I'm not sure what to say. Because, obviously, I want him home with me more than anything in the world, but I want what's best for him too. We decided the Navy was best when he joined, but now he is telling me in his letter that he was wrong, that the Navy is wrong for him. He is so unhappy.

I don't know what to do. I miss him and love him so much, and I am willing to do anything to be with him. As I've said, I have been planning to go to him during A school so we can get married and I can live on base with him when he gets his orders, and while he does want to do that, it seems that he wants to come home more than anything... he is regretting his decision to join the Navy. What can I say to him? How do I support him? Please help. I'm so worried about him...

Oh trust me, I know!!!! And that's what makes this whole thing even harder. I mean being away from them and not really ever knowing what's going on, isn't easy to begin with. But we're expected to go on with our lives like nothings different. When really our world just got turned upside down. Huge adjustment!! And it takes some time to get use to something like the Navy. Especially when they're just starting out... I like to think after a year or so they'll be better established. But right now I feel like my boyfriend can't really answer any of my questions, and he says its frustrating because they hardly tell them anything... Imagine how we feel! haha We know less than they do.

It is a huge adjustment! Nobody I know seems to understand that. My fiance is my best friend - we did everything together. Now I'm flying solo, and I can't even hear his voice at the end of the day, just to talk to. It's one of the hardest things I've ever been through! But at least I am getting through it. Us Navy gals are just as strong as our guys, huh?

It's so nice to be able to talk with other girls about this. You obviously understand exactly how I'm feeling, and that helps!

Exactly!! We are just as strong! Couldn't have said it better myself! ;)

I'm glas I'm able to help!! I'm a firm believer in talking things through until you're able to feel better about it. But like you said it's hard when no one really understands. That's why I started using this site. It's made a big difference and has helped me a lot.

Butttt....

Once he's in A school, communication is 100% better! For starters, he'll have his phone!!! And if he doesn't already have a laptop he SHOULD get one! Tell him he can get one at the NEX once he gets to school. My bf and I skype two or three nights a week. It makes a HUGE difference being able to see his face. And it's comforting knowing we have that ability even though we don't use it every single night.

This site and Facebook has been extremely helpful for me. I don't think I could have made it this far without it! Haha :)

My fiance has a laptop - it's not a great one, but hopefully it'll do the trick! I definitely want to Skype, because not seeing him has been so, so hard. Do you talk on the phone with your boyfriend every night now that he is in A school? I feel like asking my fiance that we have a phone date at least once a date once he is in A school, because I have seriously taken the ability to make a phone call to him for granted, lmao.

The first two weeks of Boot Camp were the worst for my boyfriend. He talked about how it is not for him and he was wrong, that he can't do it. However, I know that if he was to come back to the normal life of a civilian, he would not do anything with his life. All he would do is play computer games.. lol. I send him a bunch of motivational letters, reminding him of why he joined in the first place, and how his whole family is so proud of him and how we can't wait to see him. What is most important for him to realize, is that it will all be worth it.. for him and you. Just keep on motivating him.. trust me, he is not the only one feeling that way. It hurts seeing them struggle so much.. but once he will start shooting guns and just overall, getting into the routine, he will actually start liking it :) You can message me if you'd like to talk! My boyfriend is in A school in San Antonio. All I can tell you is that the day of graduation will be the happiest for both of you, and once he goes to A school, you guys will have full communication :)

My fiance said the first two weeks made him insane. They didn't do anything productive, and all he thought about was how to get out of the Navy. I guess it got a little better after that, but even then, he was still struggling. And maybe he is doing a lot better by now, and liking it, but I have no way of knowing :/ I just keep the encouraging letters going everyday, reminding him I'm by his side and that we're never really alone, because we have each other. Cheesy, haha, but he likes cheesy :)

Thank you for reaching out to me! It really is so helpful! Like I've said, this site makes me feel less alone. How was your boyfriend's graduation? What was it like? I've been asking others who have been through this, because I'd like to know what to expect... I'm excited, but so nervous!

Hi,

I can absolutely understand what you are going through at this phase of life. I and my boyfriend just recently got married before he left to bootcamp on September 26th and he will be graduating from bootcamp on November 21st (hopefully) . Even my spouse hated first 2 weeks on navy but now he is getting use to navy life. He is having some trouble with running because he had foot infection and he was given treatment for a week. I hope and pray that passes his bootcamp during thanksgiving. I miss him like helll because we were in relation for 4 years and I am missing him every minute. I am just not use to this life of being alone and missing him. I just want him to graduate as soon as he can, at least i will be able to talk to him over phone. Each letter of his makes me cry and he told me that he reads my each letter 3 to 4 times at night. Hang on dear, just motivate him. I am sure in couple of weeks, he will get use to his hectic life and he will be fine.

My fiance left the 26th of September, and his graduation date is set for the 21st of November as well! Like your husband, my SR has been struggling with the fitness tests. What ship and division is your husband in? Maybe your husband and my fiance have been getting to know each other, and possibly have been encouraging each other!

I know exactly how you feel. My fiance is my best friend, and I think about him all day, everyday. We did everything together, from morning until night, and adjusting to doing it all solo has not been easy. So you are not alone in what you're going through! I can relate to you completely.

HI...

My spouse is in Ship 13 div 11. What about your boy friend? Yeah may be they are encouraging each other in physical fitness. Hopefully everything goes good for our guys. Are you planning to attend graduation? I have booked 5 days in navy lodge, hoping that he will have time to spend with me. My spouse is going to A school in Great lakes.I did not get letter this week, hoping all his fine with him or is it delayed because of Sandy.. No idea. Lets pray and hope our guys pass the physical fitness.

My fiance is on ship 03 div 017, but maybe they have passed each other or met each other since they got to Great Lakes! I am planning on going to PIR... I am driving with my fiance's mother, and we have a few days booked at the Comfort Inn, I believe, which is just a couple of miles from the base. If your husband will be staying in GL, you might have all weekend with him! How exciting :) I'm just thankful that, if all goes well, I will be able to spend Thanksgiving with my fiance. I'm sorry you haven't gotten a letter this week - he may have been busy or on watch or, it could be as you say, because of Sandy. I will keep your husband in my prayers and thoughts!

Yeah they must have passed each other or at least during physical fitness stuff. Yeah i got the letter today, I guess it was sandy who delayed it. Not so happy with letter today cos he again failed in running for 19 sec.I hope he can make it just before the graduation. Me too coming with my spouse parents and sister, I have booked navy lodge for 5 days but my husband keep saying check with the hotel cancellation policy. I guess he is finding difficult with physical stuff. Yeah its good that you will be spending some real good time with your boyfriend during thanksgiving. Hopefully our guys pass during thanksgiving, then we can surely say Hi to each other at Great Lakes. Lets hope for the best.

I know how you're feeling. I'm very worried about my fiance. He called his mother tonight, and she said he was saying he thought he might fail... It's so scary! And the worst part is, and I'm sure you can relate, that we can't do anything to make it better for them, except keep sending letters and reminding them how much we love them. But we can continue to hope for the best, and hopefully we can meet in Great Lakes, happy and proud of our guys :)
