My husbands PIR is 12-21-12.  Someone posted this in the facebook group im in. Could it be true? Does that mean my husband would come home for the holidays??

"This is Captain Lintner, the CO at TSC. I have approved the leave dates and they are 21 Dec - 6 Jan. All students must be back in their baracks by 2200 on the 6th. Sailors do not need to wait for approved leave chits to book flights. Unless they end up in a disiplinary status, they will be granted leave for the holidays. All students will have the option to take the entire leave period. Those graduating from bootcamp after the 21st will be allowed to depart on leave after graduation and will still be required to be back by 6 Jan. The ITT office on base is the easiest place for your sailor to purchase tickets but you can try any airline. We have busses going to Milwaukee, Ohare and Midway so you can choose your airline. Buy early to get the best deal. Encourage your sailor to use the MWR buss to the airports. Its the most painless way to get there."

For those with PIR of 12-21-12 he said "The graduating class on the 21st will go directly on leave after graduation. The rules are a little different at RTC but I believe they will be allowed to be on leave until the 30th. They won't check in to TSC until they return from leave."

How do we know this is true and not rumor?

It is true, that is actually the CO of the training side of the base posting.   The school commands always go on stand down, the staff wants to go on leave too!

The leave days aren't "free" time off.   That's earned paid time off.  Earned at 2.5 days each month.  So your sailor can go on leave, but he will be borrowing days he hasn't earned yet.  That's alright, he gets to come home!  Also, he has to pay for his own plane tickets.

How does this work for those who will be graduating from boot camp on 11/30?  My fiance' graduates then and will be in A-school at Great Lakes.  Will he be allowed and/or required to take leave at this time?

I am asking because in his recent letters, he no longer want to wait until after A-School to get married.  He wants to get married as soon as possible.  I am almost beginning to think that we should try to get married during this time now.

I am going to try this also but this means alot of work on your SR's part. You have to have not only the leave to comehome approved but the marriage approved to so basically the moment he touches land he needs to get it taken care of and fast. I have heard the marriage portotion can take up to two weeks if you stay on top of it. My Fiance is graduting the very same time.

Okay, so leave is not guaranteed during this time frame that was referenced in the original post?  He's the one pushing for an expedited marriage, so I am sure he will be willing to do the work to get it approved while I am here running around trying to plan a wedding... all of these unknown factors are driving me crazy! I just have to accept that this is the life we chose to live.  The good, the bad, and the ugly.

This was very helpful. My SR graduates on Dec 21st, so does this mean he can come home right after graduaton? If so would it be better if I just go ahead and buy his ticket now so we can fly home together?

You would have to find out from him or one of the vetern ladies on here, if you havent already try joining the PIR group that is the same as yours and asking them? I would believe so but again I am not to certain

Where is his A school?  Only the Great Lakes A schools have confirmed the sailors will be going home right away.  I'm thinking it will be the same for the other schools too (P-cola, etc), but can't get an official answer.

It usually is that they have to go check into their school, but with Monday being Christmas Eve, I think they'll be put directly on leave like least year.  Buying a plane ticket is a real gamble, and you'd need to find out where they need to fly to after the holiday.

The PIR group will have the info faster than I will.  I asked on the RTC FB page, and got the standard answer from another user, nothing official.

He is going to A School in Pensacola. I have not recieved a direct letter from him yet, only the graduation date and the names on his list. He is going on week 3 now that includeds Processing week.

Recommend you write your recruit as they are being informed of the policy and what will be going one with leave.  They are also being told what information has to be sent to them (while at bootcamp) so they can go on leave.

Recommend until you hear something from RTC you hold tight

Thank you. ;-)
