His mom should get a letter in a few days or a week or so with his address, you could start writing letters now and then mail them all when you get that letter. It's called the "form letter", it will have his expected graduation date. Once you have it join a group for that PIR (pass in review, aka graduation) date, it will be very helpful. I got my first letter 15 days after he left, but it is usually between 15 and 20 (maybe 25?) days that you will get the first letter from him. My guess is his graduation date will be January 4th, but you will have to wait for the form letter to know that for sure. Date and number your letters in case he gets them out of order. Print appropriate pictures of you, you guys together, family, friends, pets, etc. on computer paper and send them to him. Other people also send comics and other things like that. He will most likely want stamps and envelopes because they don't know when they are going to get to go to NEX (the store) to buy more. Also I send a blank sheet of notebook paper with most of my letters, sometimes you are allowed to send a pad of paper but ask first. I send a self addressed stamped envelope with all of my letters so it takes less time for him to write back because the envelope is filled out for him. Write encouraging things and maybe mention how excited you are to see him in his dress blues! Remind him that you are there for him :) Encourage lots of family and friends to write, they love mail. My boyfriend has been pretty upbeat but don't be surprised if he says he hates it, regrets his choice, and wants to come home. That's normal. Remind him of how proud you are and that you know he can do it. Boot camp will be tough, he will get very little sleep, and be yelled at quite a bit; but he'll get through it. Hang in there. It gets better. Some days are worse than others, but once graduation gets closer most days will be good days. Remember that in the grand scheme of things eight weeks really isn't that long, and it will go faster than you think. Keep busy and write everyday.
(:
oh and if you are going to graduation, try to book your hotel room/plane/rental car, anything like that as soon as you can after you find out the graduation date, and make sure they're all refundable. If he is staying at GL after boot camp you may want to stay through Saturday night at a hotel because he will have liberty over the weekend. If he is going somewhere else for A school, he will have a plane sometime on Saturday after graduation. This could be a little different though since it is around the Holidays.
I know how you feel. My boyfriend has been gone since October 2. It was a little over a week before I got an address to write. The address comes in a packet of information about his graduation. It does get a little better, I promise. Keep your head up. It's only 8 weeks. You gotta try to stay positive :)
Staying busy helps! Trust me. I work two to three jobs (one is self employed) And took last weekend off for a break, worse idea ever!!! The weekend (while relaxing) made time drag on so slowly! I send news articles related to my Sr's interest, funny pictures, pictures of us, pictures from my photography business, pictures my niece and nephew drew for him. Dont forget to tell him how much you love him, miss him, how proud you are of him. Be honest, if you feel like crap tell him, but tell him not to worry. It is easier some days, some days are plain crap. But this site is amazing and someone will always be here to help you along. Trust me on this.
