Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Congratulations to you son and welcome to the Navy family. My son has been in over four years and I live in NC also. This will be hardest time for you (or it was for me) and PIR will be a very rewarding day.

Hi Cheryl & Beachbum - it's great to meet you! We're so excited for our son, and I can't wait for PIR. Before he left, our son was joking that boot camp would have nothing on me when I decide the house needs cleaning! ;-) I'll be interested to see what he thinks now. He was in college for two years, so this isn't his first time away from home, but I think it's definitely going to be more intense!

Welcome to the family! There are several of us who live in the Wilmington area who get together monthly. If you are around, let us know and we'll make sure you get the invite. My son had PIR Oct. 5 and is now in A school in Great Lakes. Go ahead and make your hotel reservations now for PIR and make sure they can be changed in case he doesn't graduate on time. Have you joined your PIR date group yet? Also, there will probably be a facebook page for his division. We're here if you need us!

Hey NCNarrator! Just a few more weeks til PIR!! Its the greatest. My sailor's PIR was 8/24. He's in California now and coming home for Christmas. You're not far from Greensboro. I believe there is a group of Navy Mom's that get together in that area. Check the other discussion groups. If you are ever in the Wilmington area, let us know, we'd be happy to meet you!!

We live in the Charlotte area......Our son leaves June 24 2013 for BC.....he is in the Delayed Entry Program and will be an MN. We're proud, excited, nervous, scared...etc etc etc! LOL. Just wanted to reach out to other NC Mom's out there.....

Hi Minemom! Our son did the delayed entry as well - he's going into the Nuke program, so there was a wait. He went up to Boot Camp November 1. It's been a roller coaster!
The hardest part for me has been lack of communication. My son is not a big communicator, but not being able to call or text or e-mail him has been tough. We live for his letters! On Thursday it's a race to see who can get the mail first to pick up his letter. LOL We've written him every day that he's been there, starting as soon as we got the form letter to tell us his mailing address, and we recruited EVERYONE we know to send notes and cards as well. He's LOVED getting all the letters and cards!
This site has a TON of information about what to send to Boot Camp and what NOT to send. What kinds of things to prepare ahead of time (like phone cards and stamps - we didn't know about those since I found this website the day after our recruit left!). Plus, everyone here is very helpful and more than happy to answer any questions.
