My boyfriend and i been together for almost 3 yrs. The day the recruiter told him that he will be leaving Feb.6, my boyfriend said he instantly thought of me because my birthday is the day after he has to leave.  When he told me that date, i was like "really... a day before my birthday". i am already trying to prepare myself so i can show him how confident and strong i can be when he goes through this new journey. is there any advice out there that can help me so i wont dwell on the fact that he leaves around a special time for me?

My husband didnt get to. But I have heard of it happening. No way to say for sure like Anti M said. You will find with the Navy stuff like that isnt really set in stone.

Hi Keesha, I understand how you feel, and to tell you the truth, even if he had been there for your birthday and then left a few days later, it wouldn't have made a difference. My boyfriend left a few days after my birthday and to be honest i didn't enjoy it as much as i thought i would because him leaving was just on the back of my head, maybe it was my mistake and i should've just enjoyed the time i had left with him but how can you when you're so used to having them with you all the time. My birthday is probably my favorite day of year, but not this year, i didn't want my bday to get here because i knew it meant he was almost leaving. So my advice to you is enjoy the time you have left with him as much as you can, it'll be hard to let him go but i promise time will fly after you get his first letter...my boyfriend is still in boot camp but i only have 2 and 1/2 weeks to go and then i'll get to see him, i cant believe how time went by so fast. so just be strong and on your birthday just try to surround yourself by people who love you and whom you cherish, it'll keep you distracted, being around friends and family most of the time helped me, and well everyone here helped me get through this so we can always help you(:

i guess it wouldnt make a difference when he left, as you pointed out.  And yayyyy i know ur excited to see ur sailor, i wish the best for u guys. do you know where his A school training is? and did he ever call u while he is in bootamp?

thank you(: His training will be in gulf port, Mississippi, and unfortunately no:( i only received the " i'm here" phone call, but in his letters he mentions how the guys in his division are always messing up so they took away their first 3 phone calls,  so i gave up on that lol but he was really good with sending me letters almost every day except when they messed up they wouldn't let them send or receive mail, but letters were enough for me so if you have any questions about boot camp just let me know, it helps to talk to those who have gone through it already

Hey we share the same birthday! My boyfriend at the time (now fiance) left on my birthday and our anniversary...he also missed our sons 3rd birthday. This wont be the last time he misses something important, but even though thats not avoidable, you can make so many more special days from this experience. Boot camp definitely brings people closer, and getting letters like love letters wvery week is pretty nice. Everyjing these ladies have said also is amazing advice

My fiance left 2 days before my birthday, it really did not mean much to me then because I could really care less about My birthday most of the time. On the actual day it was like hmmm so no one is here to fill my day with "surprises". I ended up spending it with Friends and Family and I was still pretty fresh in missing him, but I'm glad he graduates in 3 days :-)

ha thats a good idea, i like when he cooks too! at least when he is gone i can get some more cooking skills from my mom, i can cook, i just am sooo lazy lol

i will try to wish u a happy birthday message!! Thanks for the advice, i didnt realize how many other important days he might miss in the future and u made it clear that it really happens, but we can make more special days when we  are together. Thanks!

On the bright side, his arrival call may came in on your birthday lol, but he may not be able to tell you Happy Birthday since the call is so short and to the point. My SR was here for my birthday, but like someone mentioned in a previous comment he won’t be home for Thanksgiving and this day plays a major role in our lives, but I will get him for Christmas I’m beyond thankful for that. When we stand besides our men we vow to love them no matter what and that no matter what means that our men no longer belongs to us, but to the UNITED STATES MILITARY. This won’t be the last important day he miss so enjoy it while you can and love him like he deploys tomorrow.

Good Luck!

well look at it this way atleast u get to see him right before your birthday, maybe you can go out and have a celebration, as for me we both skipped out on eachothers birthdays because he was in the middle of boot camp, no phone call nothing, so unfortunately birthdays are gonna have to be pushed to the side we decided to celebrate our birthdays together after he graduates A school, but as far as being strong, its hard i held back tears and he could see it but i could see him holding back too, just make sure he knows you suport him al the way and that you are proud of him, send letter after letter i sent 3 page letters out everyday, and before i had his address i still wrote 3 page letters and stuffed them into 4 envelopes and he wanted more letters, my 3 page letters everyday wasnt enough, that is what holds them up is the letters! although you will not get near as many letters from him, you need to keep sending them and just keep your head up high, i had a baby all day everyday so i didnt have time to slow down or mope around the house, keep busy, go out with friends or family. i hope that helped, it may not right now but these are the things i was told before he left and it didnt help until he was gone, then it hit me harder than it did before! good luck

thanks, and yea i will defiantly be around friends family and college work should all keep me from moping around.
