My son left for boot camp on November 7th. His PIR would be in early January. His recruiter told his dad and I that our son might get put in an accelerated group at boot camp who would graduate before Christmas and that he may be able to come home before or after he checks into Goose Creek South Carolina where he will be going to Nuke A school. Does anyone know about this? I can't imagne squishing everything they normally learn in 8 weeks into 5 or 6 weeks. His PIR date will be reflected whne we get the letter in a few weeks. I am not planning on him graduating before Jan, but we were told that due to the holidays sometimes they push everyone through. Any help/comments are appreciated.

My son also left for boot camp on November 7th.  His recruiter told us the same thing just before he left.  it would be nice, but I don't want to get my hopes up.   I guess we will just have to wait for the letter and see what it says.  Where did your son leave from?

Michelle (Seth's mom)

He left from Kansas City. I am hoping we get his box tomorrow since today was a postal holiday since it was Veterans Day yesterday, but recognized today as a holiday. Seems like he has been gone a million years. It is too quiet in the house. LL!!!

My daughter will also be going to Goose Creek.  I haven't talked to her recruiter yet since she left (11/05) so I haven't heard anything about an excelerated boot camp.  She told me tentatively that her PIR is Jan 4.  I plan on calling her recruiter next week so I'll try to let you know if I hear of anything.

We just received her box yesterday.  They even sent home her "slim black wallet" minus her ID's, calling card & note I had slipped in.

I'm glad she kept the things in the wallet.  I still haven't figured out why some of the gals can keep the wallet and others can't.  If you get an answer from your SR, post so I can be more specific on what is permitted.  Thanks.

I will be sure to let you know if I find out.

I did purchase a small thin men's wallet for her which should have easily fit into a back pocket.

Oh and I finally found a blue candle that doesn't smell disgusting!  It's a Febreeze limited edition candle....winter glow or something like that.

Also, in the box, was an envelope of papers.  One of which had like 10 copies....I don't understand what they are all about or if she was supposed to put them in the box.

Thanks.

My favorite blue candle fragrance has been blueberry pie and it is a really dark Navy blue as well, but I agree there are some that smell ummmmm interesting.  I'll check out the Febreeze one.

I don't understand why the women wouldn't be able to keep their wallets, unless maybe it has to be a men's-style wallet that can fit in a pocket. Our son was able to keep his wallet - which was good since we put a card in it with the grandparent's addresses on it!

It is hit or miss with the gals.  I recommend that they get one from the men's department because similar ones in the women's department are more expensive and even the men's wallets come back from some gals and others can keep them.

My son left on the 6th from San Diego, CA
My son arrived at RTC on 11/6. His recruiter told him 9 wks minimum no matter what, even with the holidays. I haven't received "the box" or the letter yet.

I found unscented navy blue candles in an assortment of sizes on quickcandles.com with free 2 day shipping.

My son Left for boot camp on 11/8/12. I can't wait to get the box so I know what's going on. I was told it was going to be 5 weeks then 8 would really love to know what's going on. Jordan's mom Regina

Expecting the worst and hoping for the best is a good plan.  It is certain that your SR will not have PIR until after Christmas.  We are waiting for confirmation of which TG's will be included in the Christmas Adopt-a-Sailor program, but if your SR is in the 01/04/2013 TG, then you MAY be able to adopt him, but going up to GL twice at that time of year can be expensive--well actually you wouldn't be able to adopt him since you are not married.
