Hi All:
I am very new to all of this. My son leaves on Monday, the 19th from Fort Dix, NJ. We thought he had until next April, but that changed quickly. Just found out yesterday, and I am having a very hard time. I know this is the best thing for him, and I am very proud. But, the thought of him spending Thanksgiving and Christmas alone is tearing me apart. :-( Any other mom's out there in the NJ or Philly area who's kids are leaving at the same time?

Thanks Ladies:
Sorry I am MIA right now. But, since he leaves tomorrow for the hotel, I am spending as much time as I can with him. The tears won't stop.. I think I need a drink! LOL Monday will be hell for sure. Thank you for all the kind words. It truely does help.
I will be back on here on Monday night.
Christy
Just got my offical phone call at 9:30 tonight. They let him call from his Cell phone. Said I would hear from him in 3 weeks. Short but sweet. :-) Now to be able to get through the next 9 weeks.
My son arrived Monday night. I received my official phone call at 9:30 last night. I'm with you. Getting through the next 9 weeks is going to be hard. I'm so glad for this website to talk with and encourage each other through all this. We are not alone.
My son just landed in Chicago. Got an unofficial call that he is there and will be at base by midnight. So excited for him. Yesterday adn Sunday were tough, but now he is gone and his adventure begins
I know the next few days are going to be the hardest on them. I was told no phone calls over the weekend were good signs that everything went smoothly. Can't help but miss and and wondering if he is holding up with all the yelling in his face and no sleep. I can't wait to see him in January. Best of luck to you and your son. :-)
Hi!
My son also left from Fort Dix on Monday November 19th - I would guess they are in the same division - we live in Doylestown, PA. We celebrated Thanksgiving on Saturday before he left since we knew he would be leaving but I agree that the holidays will be difficult.....
Where are you at in the Philly area?
My son left yesterday for Great Lakes. He got in Chicago and called me from the USO at the airport. Didn't get the bootcamp phone call, but I had a feeling he was sick of saying goodby to us (LOL). I'm now anxiously awaiting anything.....kid in a box, phone calls,....
Hi Tysmom:
Sorry for taking so long to get back with you. Holiday's are crazy around this house. :-) I received my son's box on Saturday morning, along with some paper work. And, sure enough I saw your son's name on the list of people in his group. :-) I currently live in S. Jersey, but we are in the process of buying a house in Quakertown (hopefully beginning of the year). I lived in Coopersburg for 5 years prior to moving to Jersey. Looking forward to coming back to the area. How are you holding up? Thanksgiving was HELL for me. Cried, cooked, cried, and cooked some more. Today (so far) is the first day I haven't cried. LOL Tomorrow when I start cleaning his room, I am sure the tears will start flowing again. Buy the way,I took a video of the kids walking out and getting on the bus last Monday. I may have caught your son on there too. Once I figure out at way to get it sent on here, I would be happy to do so.
Christy
Hi Christy,
Thanks for letting me know...I will keep a look out for the box in the next couple days. We made it through Thanksgiving only because we had had such a big family gathering the Saturday before. My mom is living with us (she is on hospice) so I have had a lot of distraction with that. I left work recently to care for my mom - drove through Quakertown and Coopersburg every day - both are nice areas so I am sure you will like coming back. I have been using my sons room to sort fold clothes, etc. just so I can sit in it - makes me feel closer to him. Can't wait for the letter to come so I can start to send him all the letters I have.
Stay in touch, please!
Karen (tys mom)
My son also left on Monday, the 19th from Fort Dix. I live in Bucks County, PA. This is very hard. Shopping for Christmas and knowing I can't send him anything is really weird.
Our son was supposed to leave 2 weeks earlier but because of Hurricane Sandy they changed the date.
I'm glad we could celebrate Thanksgiving a little early with him.
