Hi guys, I'm new here. My boyfriend of three years (and hopefully fiance soon) left for basic on Nov. 19 and so far I've been writing him a letter every night. A few questions that maybe some of you more experienced ladies can answer for me: How long will it be before I get his address so I can mail all my letters? When will he be able to start writing to me? And, is there anything off-limits that I shouldn't write in my letters? I want to be really mushy and romantic but I don't want him to get made fun of or anything. I have no idea how this works and I'm freaking out a little. Thanks in advance for your help!

This makes me nervous about my letters. Most of them were pretty thick. Now I am worried that I got him in trouble somehow! I don't like not knowing, but I am trying not to worry. Are they allowed to get printouts of things like sports news?

I asked my Bf if they could have newspaper clippings. He hasn't told me yet, and I am also scared because I got the format for his name wrong on like, 20 letters I sent. I put his last name and first initial of his first name. His last name is very unique. I feel like if they don't give him the letters it would be a bit harsh, because I know he is the only SR there with that last name. Plus I had the ship and address right. I put tracking on the letters. It says they were delivered, but I won't know until he writes me back and tells me if he received them. I typed all of my letters and saved them, because I was afraid something might happen. I read too many stories about the letters getting lost. I drew him a few pictures, that I will have to redraw if he didn't receive the letters.

I should've waited for a response, but I read somewhere else that it was ok as long as it was appropriate stuff. But ever RDC is different. For now I will stop sending them until I know for sure. I hate the unknown and my boyfriend knows that so I'm sure he'll let me know what's going on.

You should be okay, but then again I don't really know. You're right every RDC is different. The unknown is scary.  I am so worried that my Bf is going to get in trouble for my bad format letters. :( I hope he is okay.

I think you'll be fine with the way you wrote his name on the envelope. My boyfriend wrote his last name and first and middle initial on his envelope so that is how I started doing it. So you're good! I was writing everything out before so I'm sure he'll be happy to see I changed it lol

Yeah, I changed mine too after I got the first letter. I think you are right too. I imagine he got my letters. I think they try their best to get everyone their letters. I hope none of our letters get read by the RDCs. I heard they can be pretty mean about the letters sometimes, but like you said, every RDC is different.

Yeah, they might read them but it's not that big of a deal unless they make you do training because of it. I know when I was at Army boot camp they would open the packages people couldn't keep. They might get embarrassed for a second but the fact they got a letter will trump them reading it. I know I didn't care when the guy I liked at the time sprayed cologne on my letter and my drill sergeant called me out. I just figured he was jealous I was loved lol

They won't read the letters because you wrote his name or address wrong, and he won't get in trouble for that. It will just take a little longer for him to get the letters probably.
If I was afraid mine were too thick I sent them in separate envelopes. I sent my husband sports news and it was fine, I printed it straight off the Internet. They don't open the letters unless they are suspicious about something so like with the perfume, it depends on the RDC, so I felt it was better to just it spray any letters with perfume just I'm case! I felt it was better to be on the safe side than to take a chance on something that could have gotten him in trouble or humiliated.

Oh THANK YOU for letting me know! I was so worried. I know my man LOVES his sports so I didn't want him out of the loop, but the thought crossed my mind that it might get him in trouble so I started freaking out. Thanks again!

You're welcome! I also sent current events articles I thought he would find interesting, jokes I thought he would find funny, etc. He shared them with his division and I know he was really appreciative that I kept him up to date on his football team! Even now, when I meet guys from his division (over a year later lol) I get "oh, you're the girlfriend who sent the sports stuff!"

haha yessss! I am that girlfriend too! :) You've made me feel tons better! Yeah I printed out the news about that kid that scored 138 points in one basketball game just because I knew he'd read about it. I know I'm sending half of what he would read, but I think i'm getting the important stuff! He's lucky I like sports too lol
