Hi All,
A boot camp Dad posted this on facebook and I thought is was so good, I wanted to share it her:
The Five Stages Of Loved Ones During Basic Training. Stage
1: Denial ... The first thought is one of disbelief. The person cannot believe their Loved One wants to join the Navy. (Are you kidding me???) This stage is often accompanied by deep sighs and a hope that sanity will return.
Stage 2: Anger “OK. Are you are just doing this to get even with me for something? Why are you trying to be mean me? Have you sought professional help?“
Stage 3: Bargaining “If you don’t go, I will cook your favorite meal EVERY DAY.”
Stage 4: Depression “OMG, (He /She) really is gone to Boot Camp. I won’t get a letter for TWO WHOLE WEEKS! And no phone calls for a MONTH! And I won’t get to see (him / her) for TWO MONTHS!!! Sigh… Life as I have known it is over… “
Stage 5: Acceptance “PIR is almost here!!! I am so excited!!! I am so proud!!! What am I going wear? How do I get there? Can my entire extended family attend? Can I stand next to my Sailor during PIR? Will there be an entire team of photographers and videographers dedicated to my Sailor’s every move? Can I meet (him / her) outside before they march in? Can I come live in their Division area with them until Graduation Day??? Etc… etc… And then suddenly, before you know it, you are sitting there and the door rises and in they march in to the Drill Hall ...

Thank you! My son left for boot camp Thursday, Oct 25, 2012. I am feeling so sad and blue but imensely proud of him! I am fearful because I have read things like, "we got 'beat' for 2 hours during boot camp. I just wonder what this means? I am praying it means chewed out. UGH The videos all help me so much.
I would say I am at stage 4: Mine left 11/5/12 was much more difficult than I thought! I am very proud but it still hurts can't wait for PIR!!
Awesome...
We are 3 weeks from sending our son to boot camp. I remember going through all stages of this and we are now at WOW we are so excited for you. It is what he has wanted from a very young age, to serve his country and wear a uniform that shows the world how proud he is of America, no matter the politics or issues we face.
We are excited for each step he is taking and so proud to be his mom, as I always have been
You are wrong. You won't get cold chills. You will be crying hard. Breathing hard. Your glasses will fogged up. And you'll feel very warm inside. I did when my son graduated from Officer Candidate School in '07. Better make sure you camera work. Better yet, make sure your SR orders ALL the dvds, photos. It seems like yesterday.
I love this post. I come back to read it every so often. Down to the final 7 days before my depper leaves for Boot Camp. She gets her long, long, hair cut off on Monday. Tuesdays leaves for MEPS and Wednesday she arrives in Great Lakes... gonna be real different without her around.
Figgie125, our son is leaving the same day. It is incredibly hard to believe that it is already here. So thankful for our brave children that are willing to serve.
My son just left yesterday for Great Lakes. This is so true!
