Welcome to the Division Discussion for divisions 039 and 040.

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

The letter I got said ship 03 is the USS Hopper, as well. I'll ask on the main page.
You did marry a good and selfless man! Is he feeling better?? I got to talk to Zach this morning and agree, that's much better than an alarm! Zach has a head cold. I could hear it in his voice, but he said he wasn't feeling too bad. Sounds like they are much more settled as a division. They just have to get through week 4, then it should be much easier. Glad you had a good convo with your man!
A long phone call!! It was sooo great to talk to Zach more than 5 mins! And he was told they will call again on Saturday! I hope everyone was able to talk to their SR's for a decent amount of time. :)

Got to talk to my son today. He said he is good and is liking it.

Hi everybody!

I received a call from my son on Monday.  We both cried and laughed....He was sick.  He called AGAIN today to say he got the papers for Adopt a Sailor.  He is bring his bunkmate with him.  I realize I'm not allowed to release names.  My son is Ship 03/Div 039.  If anyone would like to send me a personal note I can "match" up the name with the parent.  I will do/take whatever is necessary or would like for me to take to your son.....  My family is flying or driving not sure on the 24th.  Picking them up 8am Christmas Day - hang out - I'm going to find out what we can do.  I realize they can't take anything back with them to the barracks.  He also told me THEY GET LEAVE!!!!!!   He said their leave starts 1600-1700 on the 29th thru January 6th 1200-1300.  Please email me so I can connect with his bunkmate!!!!!

Hi, our sailors are in the same ship and division, How may I get your email address? and my son was sick as well for Two days, but that gave him a chance to rest and catch up on his sleep...

I sent you a friend request. After you accept, I can then click on your name and send you a message.

Hi all,

It was so good to hear the news that my son is coming home for leave the saturday after graduation!!  I didn't have my phone with me for one hour today when I was working out and caught the news on voicemail.  What a bummer...I would have loved to have shared the moment with him. Anyway, the news that we will get a call from him Saturday makes up for a lot.  I've learned my lesson...my phone is going to be with me every minute now:)

Hi Everybody!  I got a phone call from my son today saying that the Adopt-a-Sailor form was in the mail and I did get it TODAY!  He is bringing a bunk mate with him (he said he's real nice - I don't want him to go with strangers!).  anyway - Can't place the young man's name on  here but if there is anyone who would like to privately message me - please do!  I would love to meet you and I will take, do whatever you would like!  My son's PIR is 12/28 USS Hopper, Ship 03 DIV 039!

FeatheredNest I sent you a request so I could message you to see if your son's' roommate may be my son. I didn't getany calls today but I hope to get one soon so I can understand how leave works.  Do I need to schedule a flight for home and back for him? We're from Columbia(or Elgin), South Carolina

My son is Ship 03 DIV 039 as well.

I emailed Craig about the USS Hopper challenge coin. He emailed me back with a picture of what it will look like. It's quite incredible, is not yet available, but is being minted now. They're sold on eBay for $18.95. Quite a deal! If you have a chance, google "Amazing" Grace Hopper. She was a fascinating lady!! Crazy smart and way ahead of her time. She is said to have coined the term, "debugging" the computer. Anyway, my son has been given a few coins over the years from friends and family in the military. I know he will love this one!

Good evening ladies....

I have gotten a bunch questions concerning the USS Hopper challenge coin and when it will be done.  So I thought I'd answer them here:

We have the USS Hopper Ship 3 at the engraver now.  The coin design came out really nice.  Here is what it will look like.  The world will be kind of reddish.  What is really hard is something you don't see.  All those little lines are at different levels, there are 6 levels.  Each has to be given a number so it makes the coin have a 3D effect.  Everything "pops" out and makes the coin really cool.  But it takes forever to do that.  That's why the Hopper was so hard.  All those ones and zeros took forever.

"Amazing" Grace Hopper is the only line officer admiral not to have ever been in charge of a ship, so her history is being a computer nerd.  This is why I designed the binary computer code into the coin and geared it around that.

I am hoping to hear from the engraver about the middle of next week when he will have it done.  Then it goes to the minting press, then to the enameler for the colors.  Sooooo, I'm hoping by 15 Dec for the PIR on 28 Dec PIR... hoping.....

I'm not sure if you guys want me to do this or not, but I could put an pre-sale this coin on ebay.  I know with the Christmas rush you might space it out.  However, we would run the risk of not having the coin ready by your PIR.  I truly think it will be ready, but I am really close to a time crunch.  So let me know what you guys want to do.  Either wait till I have them in hand, or, pre-sale them so when they come in they can be immediately sent out.  I can always refund your money if 18 Dec gets here and they are not done.

What would also help is if anyone is from the Denver area, I can send the batch of coins with one of you in to bring to the others at 27 December (at the Meet and Greet). This will give me 1 additional week.

Just let me know what you'd like.  Again PIRGifts loves sailors and we will do everything we can to get this coin ready by your PIR.

Craig
