The leave date my fiance is probably going to get runs right into 2 business days that my county clerk's office will be closed due to the holidays. So I now realized we can't go with the whole 3 day waiting period option anymore, which isn't a problem. I've already found a registered course provider with my county who also provides an online alternative for me. He does not have his laptop yet and I think he just plans on getting it when he comes home. He is in Pensacola awaiting to be classed up for A-school. I was told he would have to do all of these things before marriage by some of you ladies. Does that include a premarital course? And if so will he be given some type of certificate of completion? So that we can avoid the 3- day waiting period.

Yes, he would need to do the premarital courses before you get married if you want to waive the 3 day waiting period. You can get the marriage license, and take the classes the same day (if it's an online class it can be done although it might take all day!), then go back the next day with the certificates to get married. How long will his leave be? They usually can get up to 2 weeks of leave during holiday standdown if they are in school.

He is taking the first leave from the 21st-28th

He does not want to go against his leave days since he wants to be able to take leave after his schooling is complete to spend time with the baby and move us to our duty station.

So the Navy does not offer a marriage course he would be able to take and get a certificate for?

Not for the purposes of waiving the waiting period. If he gets home on the 21st, you should have enough time to take the online course before the courthouse opens again after the holidays. Then you can just go to get the license and get married the same day. You can also check courthouses in neighboring counties, they may have different holiday hours.

He won't be allowed to leave base until 4 pm on the 21st which he will be taking a Grey Hound and we found out the latest time they had was a 4:05 pm trip so that means he won't be leaving till Sat. and he'll be in Naples by Sunday. Monday and Tues the clerk's office will be closed. And we also have to get him on a bus by the 27th to make it on time to base by the 28th. SO we are facing a major time crunch. Miami's has the same holiday schedule but I'm okay with him taking the online course on his own well before this date. I just needed to make sure that we wouldn't be paying for two courses for no reason, if the Navy offered something like it.

Since he is in Florida for his A school, can he take the premarital class there, or does it have to be taken in the county you will be getting married in? I don't know if it is a state course or a county course, that could be something to look into that he could possibly get done over the next few weeks before he comes home.

They have computers that they can use on base, or he might be able to find a friend that will let him borrow theirs or something. The computers they have are slow though so he will have to be patient if he uses them probably.

I'll probably just give him more of a reason to want his laptop now lol

what is the course online that he can take? I'm very interested because my fiance will be in A school when we would be getting married so i have to travel up there to go to a court house but then i would have to go back another week just to get married because of the 3 day wait period.

Well it's not something that is military related. It is just an online premarital course that we're paying to take, it is convenient since he is away and I can't make trips back and forth. We can complete the course at our pace and do the couple's activities via email back and forth. His leave is so short so it really helps us to waive the 3 day waiting. I would suggest checking with the Pensacola Clerk's office to see if that county has the online course as a registered course provider with them. In my county which is collier they are a registered course provider. The website is http://www.relationshipjourney.com/premaritalpreparationprogram.html

The home office of this licensed therapist is in Winter Park Fl

Britt where are you going to get married? like where is his Aschool? Dina has a three day wait period because her and her fiance are both FL residents. My sailor and I got married in FL too but without the wait period because neither of us are FL residents. We were just told to read a short book about marriage and money and divorce. Definitely research where you are going to get married and what all is required for that state.

You do have to pay for the course, so for some couples the expense is not worth it....it's definitely worth looking into though! If you go to the clerk of the court's website there is a link of approved course providers. http://www.escambiaclerk.com/clerk/coc_marriage.aspx . From what I've heard the courses are pretty long, if they don't offer an online option like Collier county does.
