What determines if their departure date is moved up? My son is scheduled to leave 12/11/12. We have planned a farewell get together on 12/01 thinking that would be safe. We are in south Ga but he will be leaving out of Jacksonville, Fl..

My son leaves 12/10 for GL on 12/11 from IL. The time is passing very quickly now. We are having a family party on 12/8 for him. This is going to be a tough holiday without him but I know it's the right thing for him to do. I haven't done anything to prepare except to try to talk to him as much as possible because I know when he's gone he won't be back for a long time.
I've been lurking on this forum for awhile now...I'm sure all of you will hear from me more often now because his departure is finally sinking in with me.
Joy
My son will be staying at a hotel on 12/4 and he ships on 12/5. I plan on behing at MEPS on 12/5 by 7:30 AM for his final swearing in and when they head to the airport, I will get a pass so I can go through TSA security and head down to his gate and wait for him to take off. It will be a very long day indeed for him, as well as the other recruits. I have reminded him to get as much sleep as possible the night before his departure, as he will not get much after arriving at RTC.
Hi Pats Fan 923, my son shipped out on 12/5 as well. Glad you made it to the final swearing in. My son didn't really want us to go, lol. We just got the box yesterday. Have you been able to get a mailing address for your son yet? Thanks!
Hi MyNavySon! Please join the Bootcamp Group and the PIR Group for 2/1. I received the "box" yesterday - our neighbor signed for it, which was very nice. They sent home the 10, 3x5 note cards and envelops along with his clothes, etc. I spoke with the Chief at the recruiting office yesterday and he was going to have my Son's recruiter check to see if my Son's information was posted on what his Ship/Division is, but I never heard back from him. I will phone again first thing at 9AM today to find out. When I find out, I will post on the two groups mentioned above.
Thak you. We did get our box on Monday. It was such a strange feeling but we are happy for him and know he is in good hands. Hope we all find out the PIR date soon.
My son leaves WA on 12-11 to ship to GL on 12-12. We are having Christmas on December 8th, acting the same as if it were December 25th, including the countdown. My daughter is also in the Navy. I just enjoy whatever time I get to spend with them. My son and I have spent a LOT of quality time together lately. I just focus on his graduation, rather than him being gone. While he is in bootcamp, I know I will be keeping myself VERY busy so that I don't have as much time to miss him, although I will still miss him a lot!
My son leaves Dec 6 from St. Louis.
mine left on 12-12-12 from Seattle
