My husband just got to Chicago yesterday to Boot Camp. I know, I am so new.
So I called the ID office this morning, and they told me I can't get my ID card because I am not in the system.
So I either need my husband to take me into an office, or I need POA.
But since we are married, his recruiter told me I can just go in with his contract, marriage license, drive license and stuff.
So what should I do now? We were planning to get the ID as soon as possible and never thought about it's gonna be that complicated. I'm sure we totally don't wanna wait until he is finished from his Boot Camp.

And anything else I need to know about being new?

And anyone are here around Atlanta, Georgia? :)

. With that is when you can go to base and get your ID. Good luck!
Sorry typing from cel... You will receive your DEERS paperwork signed by him on the mail by the end of week 2.

thanks! so is that gonna be mailed to me with the graduation information that mail?

yeah. so I might need to wait for 2 weeks and see if they have me in the system already or not. But I heard I can just bring the paper he will send me to the office and they put me in?

As the others have said, he is doing his in-processing now, it is simply too early to be in DEERS. In order to get the ID card, you will need the paperwork he signs in boot camp which is mailed to you. You can call the office and ask what other forms of ID they may need, and get that together (SSN, birth certificate, marriage license are examples).

Your BAH (housing allowance) will take a few pay cycles to kick in. You'll get it, but it takes time to process. Once it gets going you will get it in two payments, the first and the 15th.

His first paycheck will be quite small.

So when do I know about the Navy Bank thing? And when will I get the 1st pay check in the bank?
And I heard they will have to take out about 600-700 for uniforms from the 1st pay?
And how small is it gonna be? ha
So is there any way that I can call them and see if I am actually in the system before I go in you know?

It will be a couple weeks before you get the bank info. It isn't a Navy-run bank, he can choose from two credit unions which work with the military.
The money coming out of the check isn't really for uniforms, it is for things they need which aren't technically uniform items... their running shoes, underthings, toiletries, stamps and more. I don't know how much your state pulls for taxes, but there is federal tax out, SS, and all the usual tax things. Hopefully some of the ladies here can give you a better estimate of an amount and a time frame.

You can check your DEERS enrollment here:
Defense Manpower Data Center Support Office
Toll-free: 1-800-538-9552

The form he is sending is a DD-1172. He will have filled it out and signed it.

Wait. Really? I thought they need him to do that with Navy Federal? Or we can choose to do that with Navy Federal and USAA?
And for the bank info, the bank will send those stuff to us? Or my husband will send it to me from Boot Camp?
And for DEERS, I guess I don't need to check it until at least a week later?
What's the fastest?

I know I have a lot of question. But I have one more question for now.
He told me the Boot Camp is 10 weeks. And I thought everyone is gonna be there for 10 weeks.
But I was looking up stuff here and I saw people might be able to get out earlier?

What can make them get out earlier?

You'll get a form from him in the mail.  It is form DD1172 and he signs it at bootcamp and you will use it to get your ID.  It won't come for a couple weeks.  His first week is all paperwork and medical type stuff, so he probably hasn't even filled it out yet.  It is basically him giving his permission or sponsorship for you to get an ID without him or a POA.

FYI, If he's deployed and you need a new ID, he can email or fax you one of those and you can get it then, too.  But hopefully, you'll have a POA by then.

Read through the discussions posted and the answers.  You'll find a lot of answers there and you'll probably find info you didn't even know you had a question on!

A few divisions are push divisions, they go faster. If he's in one, you'll be told, but it isn't probable. Boot camp is eight weeks, plus up to a week of in-processing. Don't count on the calendar though, wait for the form letter with the official date.

The holidays can make it go slower, if anything.

Well to "hurry up and wait".

I am in Marietta, Ga not to far from Atlanta!

that's cool. wow, yeah. that's close. :)
nice to meet ya.
