I'm heading to the Valley in mid-November. Wondering if there's anyone around that would like to get together for coffee sometime.

Howdy...Do you mean the Rio Grande Valley? I'm in McAllen.
YES! We'll be in Donna. We live in Illinois, but are buying my parents' place in Donna--their winter retreat. They've gone to the Valley for over 30 years, and now it's our turn, I guess. I've been told by a Texas Navy mom that I can call myself a part-time Texan and not a snowbird! I had planned on being there around the 18th, but plans have changed. My dad fell and broke his hip (in Iowa). He and my mom were going to ride down with me, my husband was going to fly into McAllen a few days later. Now he and I will go to Houston to visit my brother and pick up our sailor who will fly in to visit. Then the three of us are driving to Tucson for Thanksgiving and finally to Donna. It gets complicated! We'll be in Donna till mid-December, fly home for Christmas, then come back to Texas Jan. 1. My hubby has to fly back and forth every three weeks to work at the Arsenal here, but I'll be there probably till April.

I'd love to meet sometime when I get there if you have time.
Hi, I work in Donna but live in McAllen...next month sometime I am moving to Corpus, as we are opening a new biz... My son's PIR is 12/18, Lord willing. I will pray for your family.
I'm in Corpus Christi, just up the coast from the Valley and on your way down. My son PIR's on 11.13.09 God Willing. Would love to meet an N4M anytime! Especially one who's already been there and done that!

Tracy
Tracy, your son's PIR is tomorrow! How exciting! Are you going to be there? This time I won't be going past Corpus; my son and I are driving from Houston to Tucson for Thanksgiving after visiting my brother in Houston. Then my husband who is flying to Tucson will drive back with me to Donna. He has to come home to work every three weeks, so when he's gone, I might just make a road trip!
I'm going to move to Corpus next month... Let us know how the PIR went. I'm sure you are so proud of your son. My son's PIR is next month...
Oh, Tina, it's warmer here! It's not WARM, but it's warmer! The thermometer says 30 this morning, but we've been told things are going to start warming up today. Considering it's zero and below at home in Illinois, I'm not complaining.

We are at Palm Shadows on Val Verde. My parents were some of the first to move into this park 25 years ago. They started with a camper on a pickup truck, then bought a used park model, finally a new park model that we're buying. Except for needing new carpet, it's in good shape. We're having fun doing things to make it our own.

I've only met one Navy Mom here in the RGV, and she's my insurance agent in Donna. I have to stop and see her sometime soon as I haven't since last year. Her son had just had PIR and was sent to Japan then.
One of the few places, I've been told, that will insure park models is Donna Insurance, but the actual insurance is Foremost. The agent is Linda that I met. She's a beautiful Hispanic woman. The office is on the square. 25 years ago, my favorite place to go was the bakery on the other side of the square. Favorite places now--a hamburger place on Silver that's unadvertised, no signs anywhere and Martha's between Palm Shadows and the expressway. Did you know that there's going to be a major highway go through near the canal just east of us? It's the Pan-American from Mexico to Alaska.
Checking back in to see if any Navy moms and dads are in the Rio Grande Valley. We'll be part time Texans again by the end of November.
Another year gone by--still looking for Rio Grande Valley Navy moms.  Headed there at the end of the month.  I'd love to have a packing party this winter.

Hello Ruth, Gun's Mom --

Are you back down here again this year?  I'm in Harlingen.

I'll be there sometime in the next month or two until April.  We usually get there in November, but our daughter had a baby November 20, so we are staying around for awhile.  I miss being there, but this year it's worth enduring some cold!

Have you done anything with Molly's Adopt a Sailor?  I've done a number of packing parties here and thought I'd like to have a small one in the Valley. I'm excited to know there's another Navy mom there!  I know there are others, but not easy to find.
