Sorry I posted this earlier but forgot to add a title:

My daughter called from boot camp today and unfortunately we missed her call. She called to say CTN is overmanned and she was told she needs to reclassifiy and was calling to ask for our input. This is heart breaking for her I know after being in DEP since last September with CTN as her rating of choice. What's going on with this rating? I'm a retired CTNC and it's very difficult for me to encourage others to enlist when potential sailors are treated this way....with two weeks left to graduate??

Advice for those with orders for CTN while in bootcamp - tell your daughter or son to wait until he or she gets to P'Cola if they're told they need to change ratings. There's probably a good chance he or she will keep their orders.

Thanks!  Did they give your daughter the option of waiting until she got to P'Cola?

spookmom - They did give her a choice of waiting but convinced her to switch at RTC. She was trying to call us at the time but unfortunately my husband and I missed the call.

Thanks for the advice RobynS.  My son is in 3rd week of BC with a CTN contract, so I'll write him a letter and let him know what the general advice is.  He's really excited about being CTN.  So glad you posted this concern!

I'm currently at Corry for CTN and I just classed up today. My mom has been talking on here "spookmom". They never mentioned switching ratings to me. I suggest to any CTN's who get stuck with that decision to just wait it out. If your orders say Corry Station, come to Corry Station. You may just have to wait around for a few weeks or so to class up. You signed a contract for CTN. I would have told them to give me CTN or I was going home because CTN is the only thing I wanted. If anyone wants to contact me about the school or anything, I'll be glad to help if I can. I may not get on here very often so you may want to contact me by email: rolfejr@yahoo.com

Robyn, this scares me! My daughter left for BC on 12/05/2012. She contracted for CTN. How did this work out for your daughter? Mine wanted mass comm as her first choice but they had no openings. CTN was her second choice.
What ended up happening with this? My son was guaranteed CTN also. He just left for Boot Camp last week. He had multiple full paid scholarships for college and made the decision to go Navy only because he got CTN rating. He will be devastated if this is the case when he graduates.

Kristy, All worked out fine for my son (rolfejr on here).  He just finished CTN school and is headed to his first duty station this week.  I admire your son for his decision.  I wish him the best.

Thank you so much. That makes me feel much better. Is it okay to ask where his first duty station is and if CTN is what he thought it would be? We tried to research as much as we could. Recruiters aren't exactly knowledgeable... From all the info we gathered, my son thought that this rank would be something he woul be very interested in. Thanks again, Spookmom.

He is headed to Virginia Beach.  The school is kind of tough, but he learned a lot of cool stuff and is anxious to start his job.  I hope your son likes it.  Too bad it's so hard to find information.  Even recruiters don't know much about it.  Just ask your questions here, and someone will try to help.

Hello all, my son is interested in the CTN.  He passed the test at MEPS with a 99 - what additional qualifications does he need?  Is the CTN program still overmanned?  Does anyone know the current status?

Any help, thoughts, much appreciated,

Debbie

Those posts were from last year - 2012.  My daughter is scheduled for the CTN and we haven't heard anything as of now...  Her recruiter is pretty good at keeping her informed.  She leaves for BC on August 7, 2013, guess we'll know more then.  The best thing that he can do is talk to his recruiter.  With a score of 99, why doesn't he look at Nuke?
