Hello this is my first post to this so please forgive me if I seem confused.  Our son is graduating on December 21st.  Not exactly the best timing!  We received the brochures but I wanted to know if there is any other information besides this.  It seems that you are pretty much on your own to figure things out. Since it is right at x-mas we really dont want to rent a car to save $$ but is that possible to get around without rental car?  Is there any packages available?  We woundn't miss this for the world, but really have to do on the cheap because of time of year. Does the Navy have anything for parents to do before the PIR or after?

If any of the moms could give advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

stay at the Navy Lodge get a suite 95 a night sleeps 6! kitchen bedrooms living room, 2 flat screen tvs, they are the best! about 6 or 7 mins from base clean newly renovated. Also the Full Moon Resteraunt is one heck of a breakfast spot. Inexpensive and Delicious. extremely close to Navy Lodge. My sailor did not want to waste time driving all over the place he wanted to be with his family not driving all over to find food or far to a hotel. Also go to the base go bowling play pool it is also inexpensive and it fimilarized my sailor with his new home he got to meet lots of other sailors who so willingly gave him lots of advise. They have food  there too its call Parcheesi ! Eat some Chicago Pizza its expensive but it was worth it. The base also has a movie theater but my sailor love the Navy Lodge so much we rented movies and watched movies there and talked face booked skyped and ate while enjoying family and a movie! Enjoy!!!

Son's PIR is 1-18-12. What is the weather conditions usually like? Does anyone know how the roads are? Do flights usually get cancelled.  We are from Phoenix, AZ.  Haven't been in snow or bad weather much.  Also, if we flew into Midway and used Sarges Shuttle Service, how much of a tip would be appropriate?

Sarge does a Meet N Greet on Thursday before PIR (Ramada Inn also does one).  My son also has PIR on 12/21 and  we are going to Sarge's - have heard nothing but good things about it.  He also runs a taxi/shuttle service which we are using (rather than renting a car).  You can find the Meet N Greet info on the right under events - click on 12/20 and it should show what is going on.  Maybe we will see you there!
