You are very welcome. He also may have earned it for doing something very well--at this point, it's generally folding or rack making--or for helping another recruit.

My daughter will be leaving on tomorrow to go to MEPS and on Tuesday she will be headed to bootcamp. I have still been able to maintain my tears as of now but I completely understand how you feel. Your son will be fine as well as my daughter :-)

Hi Plum121,

The first three days were very hard. I also held my tears and didn't let him see me hysterical. It's getting easier...meaning I'm not breaking down all the time...this site and the great people on it have been so supportive that it's incredibly helpful. You too will find comfort here as well. The support I have at home is enormous, but they haven't been through it, so it's different. Yes, your daughter is going to be just fine & I believe mine will too. :) Hang in there mom!

My son leaves for boot camp on March 6th.  I just joined navy for moms and it is so informative!

You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in March. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

Thanks so much!  Any info. is a great help!

You are very welcome.

And just like that...we got a call last night. Paul fell and broke his elbow...they want him to stay in medical for 12 weeks and then go back through basic again. He hasn't even been there a week...tomorrow is a week. I am beside myself. I'm so worried he will be able to release himself as 12 weeks in a hospital is going to be too much too handle...any advice anyone? I don't know where to send his mail either as I only got the box yesterday and no letter yet. :(

So sorry to hear this happened!  At least they are thinking of keeping him.  They still might not.

My ET broke his leg during boot camp and was there for a very long time.  He's an ET1 now, married, living in Japan.  Sticking it out may be a very good thing for your son.  12 weeks in a hospital is a lot, but no more than sailors are asked to do as compared to being on a deployed ship.  He won't be in a hospital room, he'll be in a medical holding unit.  He can study, and ask the petty officers if there is work he can do for them while waiting, maybe as simple as helping them shuffle paperwork... but he'd be making progress, earning time in service, being paid.

I hope they keep him and then I hope he decides to stay....this is so hard. :(  Thank you for your reply. Congrats to your son!

Encourage Paul to do everything he can to stay. Anti M has some great suggestions. The economy is on an upswing but still difficult to get a job w/o a technical background and/or a college degree. It sounds like he was doing well. If he like what he was doing then tell him to step up and offer to help with paperwork, anything - just as long as he can stay. Tell him not to let boredom get the best of him. Keep encouraging him.

Thank you. We only got to speak to him last night. I was hoping I would get another chance to talk to him before Sunday so we can encourage him...I just don't know. We still can't send letters because I don't have an address. I wish there was a way to look it up!!
