OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi all! My name is Stephanie and my son, Adam, leaves for bc on Feb. 6.  As many of you, I have been on an emotional, teary rollercoaster ever since this all hit the "less than 1 month" mark.  Adam is my oldest, a mere "baby" off 22 1/2!  LOL  But as proud as I am of him, I know how different it is going to feel around here knowing he won't be walking thru the door or driving up at anytime.  I have 3 younger children (19 1/2, 15 and 10 1/2) and I know it is going to hit them hard as well.  His youngest sister just wrote him a 4 page letter and I just fell apart!

Adam is sooo excited to begin this challenge and he has been eating, drinking and sleeping the Navy!  I believe his A school will be in Pensacola as he's going into information systems analyst?  I think that's right.

We live in a suburb on Indianapolis....I think I saw an Indiana Mom's board???  I know I will be so grateful for the support of all of you who are going thru the same ups and downs....

Looking forward to going thru all of this with other Moms!

You are one lucky mom because the Kaye S., the Navy mom who is the admin for Indiana Moms group is one fantastic lady. You'll get lots of support and a great big welcome. Just click on the underlined link and click +JOIN when the page opens up. After you join the group, post a comment and ask if anyone lives in your local area. In fact, I think they meet up once a month.

Tell her BunkerQB sent you. Good luck to your recruit.

Thank you so much for the info (im still figuring out how to navigate thru all the forums). Appreciate the support and welcome! Stephanie

Hello Stephanie, my name is Marilyn and my son is Daniel.  He also starts BC on February 6th.  I know how you feel, I am trying so hard not to panic, I am very proud but terrified at the same time.  I've just got to remember to say "See you soon" and try not to be completely heart broken when he leaves.  I've been reminding myself where I was at his age and that helps a lot because he is most definitely making much smarter choices than I did.

Hi Marilyn! Thanks for the support and introduction. How old is your son? Mine is 22 1/2. Maybe a bit older than most going into bc but as he says he's "ready to do something w/his life". I guess my biggest worry is that he's had it so easy thus far....i just hope this isnt completely shocking to him!

Join the group, PIR 04/05/2013 TG 21 - 10 Divisions (135-142, 808 and 921), to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.  There is a discussion within that group for the two divisions.

You may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups as well as in the PIR group. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. The Page 800 and 900 Divisions will be helpful to you and there are some changes in OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile) that you will want to make.
