OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

January Adoption USS Gonzalez

Our adoption this month is the USS Gonzalez a guided missile destroyer. The ship is named for Sgt. Alfredo Cantu Gonzalez a Medal of Honor recipient in the Vietnam War. The Gonzalez is a small ship with a crew of 270 ( 180 males and 90 females ).

My POC has informed me that because of their mission they will not see many port visits. Supplies are only replenished once a month and the ship store is very tiny. Also because of the way in which they receive shipments boxes may take a beating. so we need to use plenty of tape and bag items that could be damaged if they were to get wet.

The ship's chaplain has requested greeting cards that the sailors can send home to Moms, Dads, Wives and kids. They really need Birthday cards for kids of all ages. Cards of all sorts are helpful. In addition the Chaplain has also asked for childrens books. The ship runs a program called United through Reading that allows sailors to record videos of them reading books to be sent home. Childrens books for all ages are needed.

Their wish list consist of the following

dried fruit

granola bars

energy bars

water flavor packs

coffee!!!!!!!!!!

any and all snacks

candy and gum

chips of all kinds

beef jerky

microwavable meals/soups/mac&cheese/popcorn

cookies/brownies

magazines/puzzle books

any toilertries

Pillow cases are ok

My POC would like to have Mardi Gras decorations!!!

So come on Navy Moms lets give them a MARDI GRAS PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm thinking mask and beads and whatever our Navy Moms minds can come up with!!!!!!

We will be shipping the week of the 21st

I shipped one large box to the Chaplain on January 14th...I didn't print the sticker but I wrote on the box Molly's Adoption.

Pam, I'm totally confused. What is the correct address to ship to?? It says a question with FPO, AE in this discussion, but In MAS it is APO/FPO. I know APO/FPO is incorrect, but this is such a short address.

Finished packing my boxes last night... have one more with pillowcases that I will top off tonight... necklaces, treats, pillowcases... I will get them in the mail tomorrow after work!

Thanks Pam, I'll go get the addy right away. My box of pillowcase and notes will be at the post office tomorrow. I only wish I could have gotten out to do more. Sorry I have to wait, but I can't manage the box and my crutches to get down the stairs to the car. I'm so afraid of falling again so tomorrow when my husband is off he can do it for me.

Hi Pam, I have 2 boxes going out today.

Snacks (pringles, cheese crackers, pirate booty, hot chocolate, instant coffee), crossword books, trivia books and 11 story books for the United through Reading program.

My 4H girls and their pillowcases. They only made three this year, but the 4H leader fairy made a few extra on behalf of the club :) They shipped out today.
