I am a new Navy Wife. My husband is in the Navy Reserves and has served four years active duty prior to this contract. My husband is thinking of going active duty again and I am a little scared of what this may mean for our family. I don't know what to expect and I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on what it would be like if he did. I want to be able to go with him if he has to move out of state and I want to make sure that if we do this we would be able to get housing and such. I have never had to think about so much at once and it really scares me that there could be a possibility that won't be able to stay together. Not to mention I have absolutely no idea what to expect if we make the decision to accept such a big change in our lives. If anyone could give me any information I would greatly apprceciate it. Thanks

I am also a new Navy wife and I have many questions but hang in there. I just wanted to give you a virtual hug and encouragement. Many women know their stuff on here :)
If your Sailor is Active Duty, then you would be able to PCS with him. I'm assuming from the time in service, he is at least an E-4 so that won't be an issue. (E-3 and below can't take family overseas.) You will be authorized to either live in housing provided by the Navy or collect BAH to use towards rent (or mortgage) and utilities. How much the BAH is will depend on his paygrade and duty station. Sometimes the housing is full, so you have to go the BAH route. The Navy will move you, since you are already married before he got orders.
If he has to do training and it's less than 6 months, then you will not be authorized to move there with him to the training command, but you could choose to go on your own, paying for the move yourself. You would officially join him after training.
Of course, when he deploys, families don't go.
Hope this answers some of your questions.
