Hi everyone again - My son leaves on 3/6 from Youngstown, OH.  He has been in DEP since April last year.  We are so very proud of him & know that this is the right path for him.  Looking forward to hopefully meeting some of you at PIR.

We're dropping our son off at the recruiting office on Monday and he'll be flying to GL on Tuesday from San Jose. It's an exciting time! We're having a farewell BBQ for him on Saturday so hoping the weather stays nice!

Our son goes with the recruiter on Monday 3/4, too .... but coming out of San Diego.  Dinky, your plan sounds like ours as we will have a family BBQ on Saturday.  This is our second son in the military, but it still is hard.  Plus, our other son is in the marine's, so most of his first 4 months of training was only an hour and half from our house - so even though we didn't see / hear him, he seemed close  :-(

Done a lot of traveling, but never really not spent any time in the Chicago area, so not sure what to expect for PIR.

Look forward to spending the next couple months here and sharing what we know.

Hi, I want to invite you all to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) if you haven't yet.  Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the members), especially OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile) (there may be some changes you will want to make) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC. Be sure to slip an encouraging note or 2 into your future Sailor's wallet.  If you haven't checked Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for...  lately, be sure to do so soon.

Our daughter leaves out of Atlanta March 5th, 2013. She's been in DEP since Aug. I think we all have the same idea for a final family gathering. We are having a BBQ on Sunday before she leaves. Hope to meet up with all of you at PIR! Good luck to each of you & your recruits.

I hope our recruits enjoy their BBQs and appreciate the warmer weather. I've just looked at the weather in Chicago, and it's a balmy 32 degrees!

The weather doesn't look good in Chicago/Great Lakes.  I hope our recruits are able to land safely and don't get stuck at the airport! I guess they are used to the blizzards, but I still worry.

How is everyone doing?  I'm thinking about all of you and our future sailors.  We have so much to be proud of!

So, my son got a call from the recruiting office this morning to say his ship date has been delayed a week. Needless to say we are somewhat stunned! He's driven over to find out what's going on....

Dinky - hang in there.  My son was supposed to leave last October but had a delay.  This is a very trying time.  Emotionally you are gearing yourself up for them leaving & then the disappointment when they are delayed.  In the end things work out as they should.  Know that we are thinking of you & him.

sorry Dinky.  As MamaKrayKray noted, though very disappointing, it seems to happen a fair lot - we dropped off our son with the recruiter today and will go to MEPS this afternoon - but he had been delayed from last November.  So hopefully it is only a week.

my son left 03-04-2013 from Birmingham Alabama. I am very proud of him..

We took our daughter to the recruiters office around noon.  She left to be processed today at MEPS and will be sworn in tomorrow.  We were not expecting her to be processed until tomorrow, so hopefully she will fly out before Chicago gets more snow...

Dinky,  I'm sorry to hear of the delay. We were afraid that might happen to our daughter, as she had a medical waiver that had to be approved.  Luckily the waiver was approved before she got to MEPS.  I can't imagine how you and your son are feeling.  What a let down.  Hopefully things will work out for the best. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
