Hi everyone again - My son leaves on 3/6 from Youngstown, OH.  He has been in DEP since April last year.  We are so very proud of him & know that this is the right path for him.  Looking forward to hopefully meeting some of you at PIR.

I should have read that before I posted the other reply, but I will leave it in case others have the same question.  Best wishes to you and your recruit.

She may be kept at the hotel and a new flight scheduled.  Since she was sworn in, she is being paid as a recruit and is the Navy's, so they will try to find a way to get her to GL soon.

She made it to Chicago O'Hare & texted me around 11:30 EST. Then the call came that she made it to GL around 1:45am. She sounded tired, but safe. She remained very composed throughout the whole process and I know she will make it through boot camp as well!  So proud.

It sounds like all of the recruits that have left already are arriving safely despite the snow storm & that is good news.  Tonight is the last night at home for my recruit.  Will take him to the recruiting office tomorrow & then go to MEPS on Thursday to see him sworn in.  He's my oldest & the first to leave home.  Don't know about getting much sleep tonight for me.  The mind is racing & can't relax at all.

You will do fine.  It's hard to leave him but what a journey he will have.  My daughter left a little over a year ago

for the Air Force and is loving it.  Good luck to you both.

Good luck tomorrow- it gets easier day by day. It was tough saying goodbye. I tried not to cry in front of him, held it together until I got to the car, then cried on the way home. We got the call Monday night at 9:30. It was hard to tell much from it, but at least I know he's there safe. He's been gone 3 days now. It sure is quiet!!

Proud moment today when we saw him take his final oath.  He was relieved that there were two others joining him on the flight there.  He didn't want to go alone.  We all did well in front of him, but his ten year old brother broke down in the car & it was very hard trying to console him.  It's going to take awhile getting used to the new family dynamics - I keep waiting for him to walk in the door from work.  Seems so quiet.  Now just waiting on the "I'm here" call. Also, got to say how nice & supportive everyone at MEPS was.

MamaKrayKray, your day today sounds much like how our day went yesterday. Our son swore in at San Jose, Ca Meps and we were able to hang out with him a bit off and on before that. I was surprised the younger (9) of his two little bros was the one that cried since he's a bit shy. However, that's the one big brother messed with the most. :)

I just tell them it's time to get used to a new normalcy around the house and he won't be gone forever. I too, keep waiting for him to come home from work as he worked up until this last Monday, the day before his recruiter came to pick him up. I hope you indeed get the "I'm here" call as we did not. The only this we saw around 7:30 last night PST was a facebook check in from Chicago O'Hare airport, thanking his family and friends for support. Not sure why we didn't get "the call", but I'm trying to go with "No news is good news" approach being that he made it to IL. Sorry so long, best of luck to your SR. :)

I'm so sorry you didn't get your call, but you're right - no news is good news.  Thank you for the kind & supporting words.  It seems like our families are alot alike.  The oldest & the youngest got along great for the most part because they both have the same sense of humor.  The middle & the youngest are (or were until today) like oil & water - couldn't get along to save their lives.  However, noticed my middle son being alot more patient than normal tonight with the younger one & trying his best to make him laugh, letting him hang out with him & in general just being a lot nicer - hopefully that new family normalcy will stick! LOL

MamaKrayKray- I have 3 daughters and when my oldest left for college, my youngest (the one that just arrived at boot camp) was around 9yrs old. She thought her sister was NEVER coming back. Sometimes we think they are old enough to understand, but they don't quite get it. Once they grasp what is happening, they feel better about things. I know the Navy is different from college and we won't see them for awhile with not much contact. But, hang in there things will get back to a " new normal"  Good luck!

Thank you marla rae! It is so nice to hear from others with similar stories as ours.  I thought we did a pretty good job of explaining things to the youngest, but you're right, I don't think he quite grasped what it all meant.  He's feeling better this evening & hopefully as the days go by it will get easier

All right San Diego!  Our son departed there yesterday morning - was sworn in on Tuesday and took a flight Wed morning ... maybe the same group?
