These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

I got another letter, this one didnt sound so good.  He sounded down and depressed.  Said he felt like he was being picked on.  He said he cries every night:-(  That broke my heart.  I have start sending him countdown letters to try to help him through it with inspirational messages. I have a letter for every day of the last 21 days!!!  God I miss him!!!

Im sorry he's feeling this way :( It's almost over. My son was feeling like that at first he was real homesick, but the last few letters he's turned around. I pray everything gets better for your SR. My SR is also staying in GL for A school also. He mentioned that after graduation we would only get maybe 1/2 hour and then he'd have to move to a new location and then we could see him that evening till I believe he has to be back by 8pm. But that we could spend all day Saturday and Sunday with him, not sure of the times though. Keeping my fingers crossed we can pick him up early and keep till 8pm both day's.

Does anyone know?  If the sailor goes to A school in GL, how much liberty time do they get?  I am confused and want to get it figured out.

I think sailors who stay behind get the weekend with family- nothing overnight but a few hours both Sat & Sunday. I'm so sorry he's feeling this way. He's so close to the end of this...hang in there, both of you!

To: AlaskanSailorMom:  I think it depends. When my older son graduated from bootcamp in 2010 he got liberty after graduation until 8 or 9pm at night and Saturday and Sunday we got to spend all day with him from early in the morning until 8 or 9pm.  He told me that some divisions are "grad and go." What that means, is some divisions may get to spend the night with their families. Not all will. My son Brett is in the same division with your son. Brett is also supposed to stay at GL for A school. So, I think we just have to wait and see if their division is one that gets to check into A school and then get leave, or if they stay where they are and check in later. What my older son told me was that the barracks for A school is across the street from where they are now and they don't want to process that many graduating sailors at one time, so some go and some stay for a couple more days. Let's hope our guys get to check in and then spend the night with us.  That would be fun, but either way it's great to spend as much time with them as we can.  I hope your son is doing better now. Hang in there.

Alaskansailormom my son is in the same DIV. He felt the same way. Cried at night felt very homesick. The first call I received from him he said he was comming home, but now things have changed. He's trying real hard to stay. Doing everything he can to be there. Hang in there. :))

CameronLeigh I'm so glad he's sticking with it! He'll be so glad for it when he graduates and this time is behind him. Good for him!

Thank you for posting this update! My son is not much of a letter writer so my updates came from calls, which I haven't gotten in what seems like forever.  I've read 3/123 had 4/6 flags and now 8 of 9. Sounds like they're doing extremely well! Maybe I'll get a letter today, though I've learned not to count on it. One letter in all this time! When I'm done hugging him, I'm going to kick his butt. I'm so anxious to see him that I'll probably forget I was mad about the lack of letters!

I received a letter yesterday (3/7).  It was a very upbeat letter.  My SR said he made a 4.2 out of 5 for both the test 1 and test 2 taken.  He said that his division got their scholastic flag, and drill flag (along with a penant).  He also requested I bring his phone (ha)...i am sure he will want all his electronics...he mentioned that he has gotten really close to his division.  My SR also received a Dear John letter while in training from his g/f.  Oh well...he seemed fine.  They hadn't date long before all this.  Only two more weeks till PIR!!

I'm glad to hear that they got a flag. I didn't get a letter this week? but his girlfriend did( guess he ran out of envelopes) LOL but GF relayed what he wrote to her to me. I'm getting nervous.

Hello USS Hopper Moms - Look how far we've come!  I can not believe we are starting to count down to PIR!!  My SR's communications have been up and down as well.  They seem like they are proud of their progress and are working well together now.  Mine has had to clean a bathroom with a toothbrush and said he had fun doing it!  I can not wait to hear the whole story and understand WHY! (He did get a new toothbrush afterwards)  I wonder if I should send the RDC a thank you note for teaching him this new life skill.  Hope this new skill translates to civilian life - I'll even make it easy for him and give him a sponge.  Go Hoppers Go!
