The best hotel I found that had a shuttle to the base (only 1 mile away) wasn't even on the brochure. It's the Days Inn Great Lakes. They cater to navy parents and really go out of their way for their customers. I found the rooms were MUCH nicer than the other hotels in the area and were actually cheaper.
how can i find out what the rates are???? and by shuttle that means i wont have to rent car or taxi???
thanks for the info. I'm very anxious about my son leaving for basic. Planning the trip is helping to keep me occupied.
The following list of hotels have all been recommended at some point by N4M Moms. If you have stayed there, please add comments.
Ramada Inn (Site of "Meet and Greet" on Thursday evening before PIR)
Navy Lodge
Holiday Inn Express
Residence Inn Waukegan
Comfort Inn Waukegan
Spring Hill Suites
Red Carpet Inn
We stayed at the Spring Hills Suites- very nice! Includes buffet breakfast. Newer hotel- and I loved that it had the sitting area with the couch. We spent alot of time with everyone in one room visiting!
We also drove to PIR and had no problem. Get there early though to get good seats!!
And definitely plan to go to the Meet and Greet if you have been on N4M - so great to put faces to everyone that you have shared your life with for months!!!
Patti,
We are staying at the SpringHill in Waukegan. I read a very nice review from a family who stayed there for a PIR. I called (847-688-9801) the hotel directly and got a better rate than on Expedia or Priceline.
we stayed in Waukegan and is super nice!!
Hi, I am planning to go there for 03/22 grad. My hubs has bad knees and I understand there is a shuttle service to the graduation.... He cannot do much walking, any suggestions....also the meet and greet is across the street at Flannagan as Sarge recommended this hotel for the meet and greet location among other things. my question is is the meet and greet far to walk to from the hotel? thx
