Hello Mom's....my son will be shipping out for basic on 8 July. Just 3 short months from now.  Earlier today my son mentioned leaving and i burst into tears. Some days i am good with it, somedays i can barely stand it. We have 4 children, he is a middle child and our only boy. I'm so excited for this adventure to start for him but at the same time i am going to be crushed for him to leave. Anyway, we are from the Fairview Heights IL area...any others leaving from this area?

Hey, I haven't been on here in forever but saw your post and it made me think that I was in your shoes last July. My son left July 16, 2012. If I had it to do over I would have spent every second I couldve with him in those months before he left because that was the last time I would really get to see my "little" boy. Since then he has definately become a man! He is in San Antonio now finishing up C school and the change in him is really impressive. I am so proud of him and you will be of your son too. Boot camp is pretty tough, to me it was like cutting the cord haha. I missed him so bad and knowing he was having a tough time and was homesick made it worse. But when you pass about the third week you realize that it is going to be ok and that it was actually a great decision. We are in Ga. so 15 hrs of driving separate us and flying is so expensive I think the next assignment is supposed to be closer, at least I hope so. I just wanted to tell you like people did me when I got on here at the same time you are, that the horrible ache you will have in a few months gets better, it really does!! Good luck and God bless all of your family.

Lol...Amanda is right! I'm broke out like a teenager!

Hello! My son, Josh, leaves for BC on 8 July also. He will be leaving from the New Orleans MEPS. Right now, I'm holding steady. It helps that he has travelled some outside the US without me before. One of those times was for 20 days. I guess it won't hit me until he's been gone a bit and I haven't been able to talk to him when I want to. Oh well! I have 3 months to talk to him before he leaves. I'm very proud of him and love him a lot. He's my only son and I am very excited for this decision he has made. He's excited too. I hope to be able to get to know other mom's on this website. It seems to be very friendly and welcoming here.

My son leaves for boot camp July 9. Probably they will be together at boot camp. I am start to try to know people which kids going to boot camp on the same date. Will be great share experience and other feeling which I am sure will come up.
We live in California.

Wow, my son just had his 90 day out "meeting" this past week! Starting to plan graduation party, going away party, family vacation...i just know this last 90 days is going to fly by for all of us! Glad to "meet" you other mom's who will have son's/daughters leaving around the same time. I am going to be a WRECK when my son leaves....he is a middle child, but our only son and kinda my "baby". Happy to know some other mom's who will be going through the same emotions. Have a great weekend ladies!
