My son leaves June 11 too. We're in central IL, but he'll leave from St. Louis MEPS.
Yes, it will be an adjustment and eventually you will get used to the new normal. I only have one in the Navy, but last year my daughter, my Sailor and I were on 3 different continents. My daughter was recently home for a visit and we were all on the same continent, but it was too far for us to all be in the same room since my Sailor is currently stationed in the US, but more than 17 hours away. Skype and facebook keep us in touch and they will always be close at heart when they are not close at hand.
Ive only been separated from my 22yr old during vacation times he has taken....its going to hit me hard.
Can you give them their laptops after their PIR or do they have to wait till they get to A school?....I know he will want that asap along with his cellphone :)
Your Sailor cannot have anything until he leaves the RTC and is either at "A" School or at the airport. (See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.) You can let him us them while on Liberty with you.
What will his rating (job/specialty) be? That will help to determine how much time you will have with him PIR weekend as well. There are groups for most "A" Schools and/or ratings.
He is going in as a Logistics Specialist....I will take his laptop and cell with me that weekend....at least he can catch up on his FB if nothing else.....which group do I look into for his A school he will be going to Mississippi I believe.
Yes, "A" School is in Meridian, Mississippi and he most likely will fly out the day after PIR. I see you found the group, Logistic Specialists; you may also want to check out Sailors attending A School in Meridian, Mississippi and/or Meridian Mississippi A School family&friends. If you are on fB, you might want to check out NAS Meridian Facebook Page and NTTC Meridian Facebook Page. The Rating Information Sheet is at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ls.pdf.
My son leaves for BC on June 10 from Virginia......been delayed twice now but hoping this one is a go!!!....not sure what Im going to do without him :(
