Anyone have a son/dght leaving for BC in April 2013?

Kander, my sons degree is in Communications....Organizational that is. Where are you from? I work in a Sp Ed classroom. Did you ever hear of getting a deferment on student federal loans?

navymon2013, I'm from North East PA. My daughter did defer her loan payments since she was out of a job. Once she gets to boot camp she will set it up to come out of her navy pay. If you have any questions about boot or anything, I would gladly help in any way. Enjoy your day!

I have a question on deferrment of student loans....where do we get the paperwork from? His loan admin? Does he take it to the recruiter or what? I appreciate any info on this that you can give us. Thanks!!

Does he need to defer the loan for the month? If that is not the case and he can wait till boot camp, he won't have to defer it can come right out of his pay. Also he should sign up with Navy federal before he even ships. I hope this helps.

Hi Kander, Was your dght able to get a different bc date? My sons is still april 30th. At this point we will just wait because he likes his rate and didnt want to change that. Its just another 6 weeks...Im sure that time will go by very fast.

No she is still leaving on the 10th. It's just a month away now, and going fast! I just booked a room for the night of the 9th so I can see her swear in and send her off with a great big hug.

Ok....dumb question. They only swear in once right? He swore in when he went to MEPS. I see that both of there rates is an AZ but there is 20 days difference of arrival at bc for them. I dont really understand how all this works. From what our son has told us, we take him to the recruiters office and drop him off. The recruiter takes him to Cleveland and he spends the night in a hotel and then the recruiter? takes him to the airport sometime the next day.

My daughter went to meps and swore in, that is when she got her rate and became a Navy Depper. On the 9th I take her to the recruiters and they bring her to a hotel in Syracuse because that is where Meps is for us. on the morning of the 10 she hops on a bus with others that are shipping that day and head to meps. I will go later and will get to see her swear in officially. Then she will go to the airport and her journey will begin.

Also about the rates, they don't matter in boot camp.

Kander, did your dght have any luck in getting her date moved up? They called mine the other day with his new ship date!! Two days earlier!! Lol

Wow! what a big change. hahaha.  Are you ready? No she never did but it's only 17 days away!

No, I am not totally ready. He still needs to get his POA (for student loan stuff) his will and durable medical POA. I think that is it for paperwork. Still trying to get him to go through his things here so I know what he wants and doesnt. I am sure the time will pass quickly now. Who knows since they are both AZ's they may meet up. We will have to stay in touch! Good luck to your daughter!!

My youngest who is stationed in VA didn't go through anything. Her room is just as she left it. My oldest however has been going through things as if she will never return ever.

I am sure they they will meet up somewhere along the way especially since A school is in Mississippi and sometimes they don't class up right away.

Good Luck to your son also! Yes we will keep in touch.
