Class 1202 (Graduation date- July 20th)
Our sailors will moving on to the 2nd phase of "Nuke" School. Indoc starts on Feb.9th and classes on the 13th. Since we will all be in the "same boat" together, I thought it will be nice to share our experiences. Lets continue to support our sailors and each other!

Yes he and everybody else ( pratically) are starting Monday AM. He says a very very large class. Some that graduated in Jan from power school are included.

Talked to my son last night. They have already had a test. He passed. Yeah! He is concerned about how difficult it is going to be to get checked out with so many kids in the class. I guess it is 12 hours days. I forget to ask if they have weekends off. He also seems to be lacking the confidence he can do this as we got further into the conversation. I tried to assure him he was he was smart and he will succeed if he organizes his time and ask questions. Funny one sailor he was friends with in power school and went to BS has already graduated and been assigdd to a boat . I hadn't really realized how maqch time has gone by since they graduated power school.

A lot of time has gone by, my son takes his boards at 14:30 TODAY. He's already been assigned to a boat. He'll be moving to his first real duty station next week. They have come so far since Basic. Your son will do fine, but will ave to be assertive in getting his quals done as there are always a lot of sailors vying for time for signatures. As you told him, he just has to organize and ask questions.

Hi Betsy -- Much time HAS passed since this class graduated power school. I sure hope no one started protoype any later than your son. If my math is correct he should be finishing prototype in a just over a month(?). If I recall, some members of that class actually started last September! Our ET started prototype the first week of February and is on his way home as we speak. Just moved out of his apartment in Charleston and had his items shipped to Pearl Harbor where he'll be stationed on the USS Columbus. In the meantime, son #2 graduated basic training from the Air Force and will be done with his tech school NEXT February. Hope he gets stationed somewhere on the mainland since the tickets to Hawaii and beyond are a bit steep for us. Oh well, we never DID take a honeymoon 30+ years ago ... :-) Maybe we can scrape something up. Have to say, this N4M site is quite a bit classier than the FaceBook site we joined for our airman's basic training.
I hope everyone reading this is enjoying their loved one's stay in the Navy and that your son/daughter/spouse's service plans are going well! Just read on Navy Dads of one poor soul who was dismissed the other day while on hold for Power School for some repeated drinking incidents. Heard of a suicide incident at PS last May as well. How sad, but ALL parents should be eternally proud of their children for signing up to serve our country no matter what the outcome! I sure hope the country holds itself together enough to continue rewarding (financially, socially, and emotionally) our military families well into the future. These Navy Nukes made a big commitment to Uncle Sam and I'd hate to see any of them shortchanged because of continuing economic and political struggles in Washington!

Janenrich, wish I had good news. My sailor started out prototype fine then in May it was getting behind a bit. The stress was really getting to him. although his grades were ok. He sounded almost like he was going to have a nervous breakdown. He was asking people for help like he had been instructed to do but was getting advise like "BUck up"" Finally he got hold of someone on the chain and they both agreed that maybe the nuke program wasn't for him. Since then he has been in limbo working in an office. He didn't discuss this decision with us before he made it. I was very disappointed but he sounds so much happier that I have mixed feelings. Apparently he wasn't alone in the stress these sailors were having in this oversized class. He would be near graduating if he had stuck it out. I expect he and the navy will be severing ties in the near future. What the future holds is in doubt. Glad to hear your sailor is doing well.

I know you must be wondering how this will all work out for your sailor. My sailor graduated prototype in May and 3 of his good friends from A school and Power School ended up not making it through prototype. Once you get behind, it is very difficult to catch up. They had to wait for a while doing odd jobs down in Groton but now All three of them have been re-rated and have different jobs in the Navy that seem to suit them better. One is even just a regular electrician rather than an EM for the nuke division. They ended up being much happier without the stress of being a nuke and are off on ships in different areas of the country. Hopefully the same thing will happen for your sailor.

Son called yesterday afternoon and he was in Iowa. Apparently he severed ties with the navy on Thrusday. Funny for so many years he discussed decisions with us before he made them, now we hear afterwards. I guess that is growing up.. Keeping my fingers crossed .Wishing you all and your sailors the best. It has been great to have you all to bounce things off of for the past 2 years. I will miss navy moms and am not quite ready to sever my ties but will in the next week or so. Thanks again for all your support.

I cant believe it has been over a year since they have graduated from power school. my son has also married a year already!! he got married five days after graduation.

betsy---good luck to your son!!
my son also has been really stressed out with prototype. he is close to finishing and I am praying that if it is God's will, he will. we just have to keep our faith that God knows what is best.
