my son is leaving tomorrow for boot camp. I was wondering if they do anything to celebrate Easter or is it just another day?

Easter is not a federal holiday so I don't know that there any anything special planned. My son said USA provided nice meals for Thanksgiving Feast but that is a Federal Holiday.

Sunday they do allow time for chapel services. And it is a semi day for rest.any write home and they get to take long showers. Women get to shave on Sunday.

Maybe one of the more experienced moms have an answer.
Welcome to the Navy family :). Since he will still be a newbie and probably still in the processing part of bootcamp it will probably be like any other day...My sailor was there for Thanksgiving and graduated just before Christmas and the galley was always decorated for the holiday! The recruits love going to church, even if it is just to get some peace and quiet!!! Good luck, it's a crazy 8 weeks but it gets better real quick!

Hi colette!  Congratulations to you and your son!  Tomorrow is going to be a crazy and emotional day for you both!  One thing that a lot of us learned as our kids went through boot camp is that nothing really special happens for holidays.  They will usually operate like they do on Sundays - but they will still have to muster and take care of business.  Since your son will still be going through processing it's going to be like any other day for him.  Don't worry - they are well taken care of - they are just thrust into their new military lifestyle.  My son has been deployed since the middle of last year and has missed all the traditional holiday celebrations.  It's just part of being in the military and they start ingraining that in them from the beginning.

Good luck!  These next few weeks will feel like they are dragging on until you finally hear from him and then you will hit that point where things start to fly by!

colette, deniseMatt'smom is correct; Sunday will be a P-hold day for your SR, so no chapel or other things associated with holiday routine yet.  He will enjoy a nice meal though.

Checked with a friend who is at RTC and they may allow those on p-hold to attend Chapel services due to it being Easter, but it depends on everything else they have to get done.

Thanks for checking on that.

thank you for that information. I was just hoping that there was something special because it is also his 19th birthday :(

If you search around on this site it tells you the holiday schedule. I did't see anything about Easter.

Those who are out of P-days will have "holiday routine" because Easter is on a Sunday and "holiday routine" takes place on Sundays and federal holidays.  Angie has indicated that those in P-hold MAY be able to attend chapel on Easter.  See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC for more on "holiday routine"
