Hello ladies! My name is Shante' and on March 26th my son received a phone call from the recruiter stating that a job had come available and that he had to leave in 24 hours and had 5 min to make a decision. He made the decision to join the navy in Dec and thought he would leave in Jan but later found out there were not any jobs available. Originally he was scheduled to leave June 12th. Well, he decided to leave and what was supposed to be a birthday dinner for my husbands birthday turned into a going away dinner for our son. After dinner we had to drop him off at the hotel at 10:00 pm and say goodbye. As I hugged my son I realized I didn't want to let him go and before I was about to completely lose it my husband said "that's enough, it's time for him to go. It is just so difficult because it was so unexpected. When I left that morning for work I didn't think I would be saying goodbye to my son because he was going away to boot camp. Anyway, he arrived safely to Great Lakes last night. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they graduate the 8th week of training or is graduation the following week. It seems to me that they would be required to complete the 8th week with graduation on week 9. Thankful for this site! This has been a rough week!

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in March, to connect with others with loved ones who arrived at the RTC yesterday and may have PIR together.

You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.

To guestimate the PIR date, count 9 Fridays after your receruit arrived to get the most likely date of PIR, 05/24/2013, but know that it could be the week before, 05/17/2013, if he was one of the last to fill a division from the week before, which is more likely to happen for one who arrived on a Monday or a Tuesday than for one who arrived on a Wednesday as yours did. You will not know the PIR date for sure until you get the form letter in about 10 days or so.
