Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

If he has MEPS on 10 July (his ship date) and is at the hotel on 9 July, he will arrive at the RTC the evening of 10 July or early the next morning and P-1 will be 11 July. P-2 will be 12 July and he will have P-Hold on 13 and 14 July and P-3 on 15 July, P-4 on 16 July and P-5 on 17 July and mail the form letter on that day..  Since he is arriving on a Wednesday, it is unlikely, but possible that he would have to wait on additional recruits to fill the division.  If he does not have to wait on additiional recruits, then 1-1 DOT will be 18 July.  (See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones).) 1-1 DOT can fall on any day of the week (M-F) depending on when P-days end. It would not be practical for all of the divisions in the TG to be on the same DOT, so the DOT is staggered for the divisions within the TG.

By counting 9 Fridays, his PIR will most likely be 09/06/2103, but it could be the week before, 08/30/2103, if he is one of the last to fill his division, unlikely for one arriving on a Wednesday or early Thursday as your future Sailor will.  It could also be the week after 09/13/2013, but that happens more for those arriving in the wee hours of Friday. You will not know the PIR date for sure until you receive the form letter.

I hope that clears up how things work at the RTC.

That is correct.

Thank you all so much! Very helpful!

I'm glad that you are trying to figure things out early. Please do join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the members).

Thank you so much. The details of where I can go to find out more is appreciated. Have a good day!

You are very welcome. I look forward to seeing you in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) at some point.

Same here.. I was wondering is there any way this could all come to a halt for my son should the budget cuts hit the Navy hard?

There will be cuts in personnel beginning in 2015 for all branches of the military and your future Sailor will have standards to meet to continue serving. I suspect that dates ship to BC will change for more future Sailors this year than in the past.

Hello....my name is Diane and I live in Lake Havasu City AZ....where it gets REALLY hot in the summer....like 115'!!  I noticed your son will be leaving July 10th and my son will also be leaving that day.  I hear you on the mixed emotions of all of this!  I have been an at home mom with my son since he was born and will be turning 18 on July 6th and leaves for Phoenix on the 9th.  He will be doing Damage Control.  I will miss him to death and just hope and pray he will be safe and happy with his choice!  Hope to hear from you soon.  Di

My only son leaves 9 July 2013.....

My son leaves for MEPS July 10 .. As with a lot of you, so many mixed emotions.Very proud, but nervous about him being "on his own" He will still be 17 when he leaves, will turn 18 two and half weeks later.. He is sooo ready, this has been what he wanted to do since he was in elementary school.  I just cant believe the time has (almost) arrived..

I'm another momma that has her only son leaving for GL on July 10th. Proud but the anxiety has started kicking in.
