Hi, I'm a new Navy wife. My husband left for basic on March 27, and I'm counting down the days till PIR. I have already received his box and the form letter. When should I expect to be getting the DEERS info and the stuff I'll need to get my id? When I do get them are there any helpful tips you have for getting it done? Also, any tips in general for us ladies new to the whole process? Do's and don'ts? First moves?

tklove81 my husband left 3/27 as well!

my husband is in Ship 02 Division 928

Hi there! My DH went to RTC back in November and jus recently graduated A school. We are currently settling into our first PCS. You will get the letters prob 10 days to 2 weeks after he leaves I think I remember getting mine closer to 2 weeks in. It comes in just a plain white envelope and it has instructions on what to bring with you in order to get your ID. My DH took care of my tricare stuff in basic so shortly after I got letters informing me of my insurance and what not.
Hi, my husband is still at bootcamp and i just got my dependant ID last Friday. I recieved my form about 3 weeks after he left. Your husband will enroll you into DEERS at bootcamp and all you have to do is take that form, driver's license and social security card to the nearest base. It doesn't matter what branch any should do it with no problem. They told me my id card works as my insurance card for me and my kids. Make sure you have your proof of insurance and registration for your car with you, as you cannot drive on base without it.

I think  I got my DEERS and insurance forms 3 weeks after he left. (last summer) they have a number you can call to see where the nearest place to get your ID is. I went to a national guard office and got my ID. make sure you know the hours they are open so you don't have to make too many trips ;) I did that. I took all forms with me....drivers license marriage license SS card lol  I didn't want to risk missing something. there will be a list of things to bring in the paper work.  make sure you are sending him lots of letters. and pictures. I sprayed perfume on all my husbands letters and he loved it! also EVERYONES experience in the navy is different. so even though people tell you things, you just got to live and learn :) I still ask questions even though I know most of It will be different but it eases my mind. do you know where he is going to A school at??

He will be going to A school in Pensecola. I plan on going down there as much as I possibly can during the 3 1/2 months he'll be there! I'll have to try the perfume thing, I hadn't even thought of it!

my husband went to Pensacola also, i went down there and stayed a month to be with him while he was at school :) you'll love it there. he was at the NAS base, not the corry station .

I know they usually fly out first thing Saturday morning for A school, but since it's a holiday weekend is there a chance he'll get an extra day? I'm just worried I'll only get a few hours and I have to share them with my in laws and won't get a second to ourselves. I'll take what I can get, but I'm hoping for more. Also, how long before I can go visit him in Pensacola? He'll be in IT school, so I'm not sure what base.

He is the only person that will know his travel plans, and he won't know them until a few days before PIR.
