OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

♥We Stitch Love Project♥
We Stitch Love is a program where we create pillowcases and other handmade items for our deployed military.
Our goal is to help these heroes have a little bit of ‘home’ while they are away from home. We are helping them with sweet dreams when they take a break.

Pillowcases can be sewn together or premade cases can be decorated with paint or tie dyed. There are several different ways to make a premade case special if you don’t sew. As long as there is love inserted through effort, they are stitched with love!
A standard size pillow is 20”x26”. Pillowcases should be at least 22”x28” or longer. The body of the pillowcase should have at least one side that is soft to sleep on and without seams where their head will rest. There are different ways to sew a pillowcase. Here are a couple different ways.
Always prewash fabric and premade cases to remove sizing and shrinkage. (Adding a little vinegar helps to soften the fabric and set the dyes)

A different version is to cut the body 24”x44” and use an 8”x44” band. Sew band to body, press seam towards band top. Stitch side and bottom of body, zigzag edges so they don’t fray. Turn inside out, press and top stitch band seam. Turn down ¼” and press, fold over a 1” hem and stitch.

For inexpensive plain (second quality manufacturers runs) visit www.pillowcase.net for large quantities of white or colored plain pillowcases to decorate.
Be sure and post pictures of your completed pillowcases and of any sewing parties.

Ladies, we are needing 100 pillowcases for this months adoption. We are sending them to the staff of our Special Hugs groups!
We are also going to try a new project for them and send a few surgical caps that are fun and colorful! It may just brighten their days! (great idea Susan) If anyone is interested in making a few here is a pattern that Susan found. http://www.ehow.com/how_6550049_make-scrub-skull-caps.html There are other patterns out there so feel free to find one that works for you. I've also found YouTube videos for them. We are only sending a handful to see if they go over well.

Sounds like a lot of fun! I talked with Dr. Jim Tuesday. He is our "medical advisor" for SH when we were trying so hard to find another POC, it was Dr. Jim who found one for us. He thinks the idea of the surgical caps is FANTASTIC. He just loves MAS Mommas and all we do for the patients, but he is especially thrilled with the adoption of the staff. He told me the things they deal with daily are so way above and beyond anything he imagined that he finds it impossible to explain to even ED personnel here at home! He sends his regards to everyone & thanks us for boosting the morale of these special Navy personnel.

to those pillowcases I will add as many scrub hats as I can finish this weekend... have a couple cut out.. supposed to be wet and rainy... sounds like weather for an old movie and sewing since I can't be out in the garden!!

@ Kim, do you want to divide up the PCs and tell everyone which CSH to send their's to? I counted 100 in the above list, but a little problem. I just found out from our POC that there are 15 more at SHUK. I think I told everyone about PYN closing and the staff being re-assigned, well now I know where at least 15 of them went!!
You can put me down for 9. I don't think I'll have time for getting anymore, but I'll check with the Quilter's Stash tomorrow & see if any of the area sewers have made some for us. I'll let you know.

I'm on my way home today from SC and I will get the PCs divided to which group and let the ladies know. I need to send the addresses to the ladies who aren't on N4M also. I will send the other 6 pillowcases, if you are sending your 9.

Have you decided where you want me to ship? I need something to finish a box to SHUK with some books and the PCs would be perfect. I found I have 10 (not just 9). Is it OK to send them to SHUK or do you need them for the CRCC/WWU? I can do another box for the CRCC, just let me know.
