Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 227 and 228
These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.
Get to know each other, your SRs are!
Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.
Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.
Hang in there!!!

Jitterbug61,
did you confirm that 228 also moved to ship 12?
My SR is in Division 227 also. I did not know that they transferred to Ship 12. We sent mail out last Saturday when we got his form letter. Does that mean he will get his mail even though it has changed to Ship 12? Do I start sending mail to him on Ship 12? We still have not been able to talk to our SR. I was really hoping that we would receive a call this morning but it didn't happen.
Lori - I didn't not hear back from the PAO yesterday, however, I just got off the phone with my SR and he said that all of 227 and 228 were moved to Ship 12.
onproudmom - I am sure that any mail that you have sent to 227 will be delivered correctly. I have been told that this happens from time to time.
Sure was good to hear from him. He sounded really happy. He said they discovered that he needs to wear glasses, so they gave him some to wear. He never needed them before - but both his father and I wear them, so not surprised. Sure was great to hear his voice!
I hope that you both get calls today too!
I did get a call!! He sounded good and he did confirm that they had moved to ship 12. He said that others in his division has already received mail, but he hasn't gotten anything from us yet. I told him that we had mailed about 16 letters already, so I'm hoping he will start getting them this week. I asked him if the letters that others had received had ship 12 on the envelope instead of 9 (thinking maybe that was why they arrived sooner)... he laughed and said, he hadn't been reading everyone other people's mail!! He said he had already written us 12 letters, but they haven't been able to mail them yet. That made me a little sad that he hadn't gotten any mail, but at least he knows the letters are coming! He is going to be drowning in mail if they all come in one day! lol!
Thanks Jitterbug61! Just as I had finished commenting on this site, my SR called. First call we got since he left on May 16th. He did inform us that his division is on Ship 12. He said he hadn't received any mail yet from us and was planning to write us if he had time tomorrow. He sounded good. He said some days are hard on him but says he knows that this is the best thing for him. I could tell by the way he was on the phone that he has changed. I am so grateful to all these navy moms for helping us through this. You guys are amazing!
Hello Moms, I'm new to this. It has taken a few days to get this all together, but I was so happy to finally see moms from my SR same div, 228. He did call today and said he had been moved to ship 12. He sounded good, said he's gaining weight (yeah) and that its real cold. We are from NM and not used to that cold, cold weather. He said he had not received any letters yet, but that they would be forwarded. My husband was Army National Guard so Navy is new to me and I have a lot to learn. I'm excited now.
When one division changes ships, it's brother division will always follow, an exception could be if one division is all male the other all female, but even then most likely would both move.
For brother divisions, if one division is integrated the other will also be integrated. Berthing compartments hold approx 88 recruits, so, for ease of math, 44 are male and 44 are female in both divisions. Since the males and females don't sleep or shower together (LOL), when it comes time for lights out etc, the females on one side and the males on the other switch sides to accommodate.
Also, if recruits are SIQ or LLD in both divisions, having the brother divisions together makes it possible for one RDC to keep track of both while the rest are training.
Changing Ships while in BC does happen. Ship 11 just went through some major renovations, repair and maintenance in the past couple of months, so in the recruits went two weeks later out went the recruits. :)
Your SRs will receive the mail that has been sent to the other address, it may just take a couple more days.
My son is in div. 228 and he has received letters addressed to Ships 9 and 12. So fret not, Moms....They should still get your letters!
That just makes me SO happy!!
My son (div 228) said they get mail every day...so keep those letters going!!
Your SRs at this point can probably only send letter out on Sunday, which is mail for Monday. They do receive mail Mon-Fri, so keep on writing and then write more. :)
