I just got off the phone with my SRs girlfriend and she had received a call from him regarding their son.  He had called me last Saturday and was really upset because he could not complete his 1.5 mi run. After going to the doctor he found out he has a stress fracture of his left heel which was why he was having a problem running. I am so sad I could just cry. He will be held back until his heel heals enough for him to run again. I did some research online and that could take from 6-8 weeks.  GL is so far from Virginia and now it seems instead of seeing him 6/14 for his PIR, it could be twice that long. I would really appreciate any prayers and encouragement you could send my way and his. He left 4/16 and it already seems like forever. I was just reading about sending him letters and mail and realized that every letter I have sent him has 2 24cent stamps on them because that is all I had and his RDC can flag all his letters because of excess postage. I am so happy for all you moms who have had happy phone calls today. I know how great it is to hear your child's voice. I know that this too shall pass but I know how disappointed he is that he can not graduate with his division because of injury.  Say a prayer for us and thanks so much for your support and having this site that we can go to and share our good times and not so good.

I'm sorry to hear this.  48 cents is not that much over, so I doubt that would be a red flag. I would think that your SR has been moved to the RCU, so join SHIP 04 DIV 2341 (clickable link). I am sending prayers for your SR's speedy and full recovery. Those in the RCU usually get to call every other Sunday unless they have a doctor's appointment in the week and call after that, so you will be able to know what is happening with him. He will continue the book work part of his training while in the RCU.

Thanks so much for the prayers and the response.  I will check out the link. I will keep my phone with me at all times tomorrow and hope that I hear from him.  The hardest part is trying to let them go and still be "the mom". He should really learn the book work with the extra time he will have. I would just love to have a 15 minute conversation with him, I haven't received any letters from him yet and getting info in bits and pieces takes some getting used to.I will also be going to the post office on Monday buy some regular stamps, I sent all mine with him! Thank you again for the prayers and for taking the time to be here when we need someone to share with.

Since your post indicates he made a call today, it will be next week or after before he calls. Sorry. He should be able to write more often than just on Sunday though.

He had to call his girlfriend earlier in the week regarding bank information and that is how we found out he had the fracture. I haven't heard from him at all so I am hoping that either a. it isn't really bad or b. he will get to call me tomorrow and I can find out from him just how bad it is.  Maybe he will remember how to write a letter and I can hope for one of those! lol Thanks again for the info on the RCU.

:o)

I'm sorry AaronsMom
I will keep your SR in my prayers. praying for a speedy recovery

Thank you Ladichez, all prayers are appreciated!

Hello AARONs Mom,  I will pray for his quick recovery!!!  Hopefully he's not on his feet to much. I snnt my son postcards (33cents), letters (46cents) , some letters with news clippings (66cents) and one day I mailed in large manilla envelope the complete newspaper,  GO MIAMI HEAT!!!!  ($2.48) . I guess he recieved all. He never referred to any in all his letters.      Take care and know God is with your son ....and YOU too!!     Melody

Soooo sorry to hear that.... but  DO NOT WORRY....  My son had stress fractures in both heels... most rediculous thing i'd ever heard...  My son called me to say he had been moved to RCU 2 weeks before his PIR  both of us were devistated.. but I knew he would get better... he spent 7 weeks in RCU  he rehab'd and trained and trained and was finally FFD (fit for duty) when our sailors are pulled out for recovery and rehab.. when they become FFD they are placed in a new div pretty much where they left off..  EXCEPT in my sons case... there wasnt a div close to his 5-5 day so he had to go back 2 weeks..  poor kid spent a total of 16 weeks in boot... he laughs and said " I had so much fun i did it TWICE!!"  He has had NO problems since boot... (his PIR was Mar 2 2012) the docs did make him wear some othotic things in his shoes..   Write to him A LOT they get bored in RCU..  but sending prayers for a speedy recovery...tell him to hang in there.. like you said.. this too shall pass..  Lemonelephant is soooooooo right ... join the group she mentioned ....OHHHH it helped me sooooooooo much..

Thank all of you so much for your words of encouragment! Moms need support too! It is so comforting to hear from others who have gone through and survived the same thing; and it is much better that they caught it early before he did more damage. He had his wisdom teeth pulled this week also so I know he must be feeling beat up all over. He had done tons of sit up and push ups before he left to get in shape but because of the snow in the Blue Ridge mountains, he didn't get in a lot of running time. I will continue to flood him with letters as will his girlfriend, his sister and her husband who was also in RCU in boot camp because of his wisdom teeth. I joined the RCU webpage and the ladies there are so supportive. Thank you lemonelephant for letting my know about that site. Thanks to all of you for your prayers. I am hoping I will get to hear from him today, at least now I know to change the tone of my letters because his girlfriend does not have long distance ability on her phone so I didn't find out until 4 days after he had called her. Happy thoughts! that is what I will send him and keep in mind for myself. Thanks again.

Thank you MarlaCPA, I am glad your son was not delayed and is doing well. Thank you for your prayers, I know that all his friends and family have our work cut out for us for a little longer. We have been going through trying to get him in the Navy since January of '12. He finally cleared all waivers and was enlisted Aug.'12, had to wait 6 months until April 16 to leave for boot camp and now this. Everything happens for a reason.  I will just keep the faith and keep supporting him and we will get through this. Thank you again for your kind words and encouragement.

AaronsMom,

Please know that we are all thinking of you and your SR. Wishing him a full recovery and a fast track back to training! ((Hugs))
