My son finally had a meltdown last week about how much stuff he needed to get but either didn't have time for or he simply forgot. He requested that I post some of the things that all NUKE's need in A school. He said that a great idea would be to send them the day before graduation to the indoc address as it never changes. The address is:
FN, first name, last name
class: INDOC
101 NNPTC Circle
Goose Creek, SC 29445
This way all new sailors will have everything they need when they get their.
This is his list:
He also said that he has picked up extra's of Navy issued things and highly reccomends getting extra of the following as soon as you get to GC:
I hope this helps! Also veteran moms please add anything that you think would help.

when do they need to supply their own sheets? would they then also need towels etc. or are these things still provided on A school?
thanks... never thought about what he might need for A school only thought about things of his that he might want in SC that he couldn't have in boot camp! may need to go on a shopping trip when he can..
thanks for this list!
I know this is probably a dumb question, but how did he do that with no car? That's my big concern. I know my son can and should buy this stuff on his own, but he won't have a car.
They have money ( $1,700 - $1,900 a month salary plus housing and plus food - most of their boot camp salary was unspent during Boot Camp - assuming they are single - so they have money in the bank ). There is a small NEX store right next to the campus and a much larger one a substantial walk away.
There is a shuttle into the mall, Best Buy and other locations on weekends and taxis at other times.
They are busy, they can not drive a car for a few weeks, but they are not marooned, nor are they without resources.
Lot of take out places deliver as well. My husband was taken to sons favorite Chinese take out place when he was there. Said it was not bad.
Lol, guess mine doesn't care what kind they are!!!
I bumped this as some new members were asking about items they might need/want while in GC. This is just a suggested list - they don't really need any of this. Keep in mind they don't have much storage space and they have room inspections so things must be put away (out of site - locked up).
They do not need a laptop - all studying is done in the Rickover. The laptop would be for personal use only....
My son has been in 3 years now and he still has not bought an iron. And he's always passed uniform inspections with the highest grade (or whatever they call it!).
Does anyone know if they can buy a cell phone on base. I know our sailor is interested in Verizon. He wanted a new phone he didn't like the one he had before bootcamp, his PIR is next Friday. After the last two months of very little communication he is very anxious to get a phone and of course wants to be able to pick out his own. I know they have a little bit more freedom. I don't really know what a Naval Base is like. I am assuming maybe at the Nex. I don't know.
