Hey all:)
Mu husband left for bootcamp four weeks ago. I just got my Military ID today! I'm really excited about it but I have a few questions.
If I just want the standard care from tricare am I already set up for it? The paper I was given
Makes it sound like once i get my ID then I'm covered (unless i want a bigger plan).
Another question I had was about housing allowance. When will I start receiving this and do I need to sign any paperwork or anything for it? Or is that automatically set up after you get your ID card too?
Thanks for the help!

My husband is at bootcamp right now as well. i got the info for insurance and id cards. how do i get my id card??
you have tricare standard as soon as he filled out the paperwork in bootcamp. you have to elect to take tricare prime.
Housing allowance (BAH) is paid to him on his paycheck. For us, it showed up from the beginning, on his first check.
Lindsay - You have to go to a base, any branch it doesn't have to be Navy. It should tell you what to take on the form. Save yourself a little time later and also take your car registration, insurance and your drivers license and ask to get base decals while you are there. If you have more than one car, take the stuff for all of them. Get the decals after you get an ID card. You need your license, insurance and registration to drive on base anyway, might as well get the decals.

Good evening Jenn,

Are you saying that SR are already receiving BAH in the BC?  My SR, now Sailor, husband just left for A school.  I left behind and he never mentioned about the BAH allowance that i could really use.  I am not working and waiting for joining him after the A school.  Who could i ask and find out more from.  Since my husband did not mention i doubt it he would be the right person for any info.  As far as the tricare if standard is the one he signed me up for and would like to change to prime, which i think is a lot better, what should i do?

Thank you and take care, in solidarity, m.

Marika: Were you married before he left?? My husband left for boot camp on 4/17 and the BAH was suppose to hit the first check that processed after that. It didn't come on 5/1 so his recruiter has assured me that the BAH will be there on the next check 5/15. I hate that you were not made aware of the BAH while he was at basic. I would definitely check into this. I would say his recruiter but he's in A school now so honestly he'd be the person to ask. If you are not living on base the BAH is and has been deposited in what ever account your Sailor provided. Good luck!

The first pay checks are very small.. this is b/c they take out money for their uniforms and all the necessities they buy at the nex when they first get there. it will be separated in their pay . half and half with each pay (the 1st and 15th)  its not a lump some that comes at once which makes people think they do not get it. but have him check his LES and make sure it is going in correctly. I switched to tricare prime :)I love it. you just have to fill out the insurance paper work that was sent with your ID forms and send it back in and they will update it all for you. it will come out of his pay also so you don't have to worry about that :)

your husband will take care of all the paperwork :) no need to sign for anything except if you want a different type or insurance and also you have to sing up for dental. :)
