Hello there!

Well in three months and one week, our son will be heading to MEPS in Milwaukee and then down to Great Lakes.

We're hoping to find others in his class to share with, communicate with and to hold on to during this time!

Also, from our readings here on N4Ms, we have learned that there may be a way to get other recruits to help us get our whole family into the PIR.

We have a family of seven including our recruit, and as we understand it, he is only allowed to list 4 people as guests at the PIR.

So, if there's anyone who has a recruit starting on the 29th, who won't be using all of their guest passes for PIR, please get in contact with us if you can help us out. Thanks!

God bless us all!

PurpleCarnation, No, you cannot write someone on the Access List that you do not know. The RTC considers that a breach of security and you could get in BIG trouble for it--such as losing Liberty, being delayed in shipping to "A" School.... DON'T do it.

The Rating Information Card can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ic.pdf. You may also want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view.

Be sure to let your loved ones know about this site. I see you have joined IC- Sailors; other groups for that rating or  the "A" School are IC Sailors, Engineers, Snipe Moms(enginers), Snipe Moms, Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page.

Hello L.E.,
I have read all of the RTC guidelines about PIR guests, and am unable to find anything stating a sailor cannot list another sailor's guests on his or her Access List of 3-4 guests. I have read multiple times in N4Ms where this practice has been done by other sailors and families without a problem.
I don't want to break any rules, so if you can give me a link to this PIR policy stating that the sailor's Access List can only have people they know on it, that will be great!
Thanks!
Maureen and Andy

It was done in the past, but is now NOT allowed. That has been posted on the RTC fB site numerous times. One of the discussions about it is Adding Guests to another Recruits Access List - Against RTC Policy.

Hello. I have scoured all three sources: The RTC website, the Family Guide and RTC FB for a statement and could find nothing. Then someone (and actually it has been asked several times on FB before), added it on here to my Discussion that lemonelephant listed above.

Here is an excerpt so you all can have it here to see as well:

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command : I am new to the navy family and this question seems to come up a lot. I know that the Policies are changing for PIR. My Question is this: If someone only has 2 people that can come to PIR can the SR invite 2 other people and put them on the list if it is another SR that is in his or her DIV and SHIP? Please clarify this as this seems to be the hot topic. Thank you very much for responding.

  • U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command Ma'am, while this is something that some recruits may have chosen to do, they are instructed not to do so. It is against RTC policy, and compromises safety procedures that we have put in place. If we are able to determine that guests do not belong to the recruit they are placed under, they will not be allowed access to PIR. Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the Navy's only boot camp!

Thanks for the links.

Sorry, Maureen, I don't want to get in trouble. I wish I could help. Good luck. :)

No worries!

However we just went to a DEP meeting/family picnic, and the recruiters emphasized two things about guests at PIR:

  1. It's ok to share spots;

  2. Because its the summer time, graduation quite often is held outside, which essentially takes off the limits of an indoor ceremony.  Therefore, more family members are being allowed through the gates for outdoor ceremonies.

So many voices saying so many things!

Andrew & Maureen

The Recruiter is WRONG. (Is that strong enough???)

1. As of last fall, Recruits CANNOT give spots to guests of another recruit. Prior to that, it was not encouraged, but it could happen. It is now seen as a breach of security and any recruits/Sailors discovered doing it could face serious consequences--so please don't risk that.

2. The only time that graduation has been held outside in many many years was for the Centennial PIR on 07/01/2011 and they strictly limited the guests to 4 for that and that was prior to the limitations being enforced beginning in the fall of 2012 for some PIR's and then beginning in January of this year, the guest limit is strictly enforced for ALL PIR's at 4 guests for those with 12 or fewer divisions in the TG and 3 guests for those with 13 or more divisions in the TG.

Tell the recruiter to please see the info on the RTC's websites at https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand, http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/index.asp (especially http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp.) and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide_v14Mar2013.pdf, The recruiter needs to get current on the info and quit passing out information that will be proven WRONG and lead to hurt feelings at the very least.

Only the 3 or 4 guests ages 3 and over that your recruit puts on the Access List about 10 dyas prior to PIR will be permitted to enter the Drill Hall and attend PIR. Those who are ages 2 and under do not have to be listed. Any other guests will have to wait in the hotel room. At least now they will be able to see PIR as it is streamed live at http://www.livestream.com/usnavyrtc beginning at 8:45 CST.
