My son left for boot camp on May 7th. I received his box today but there was no form letter? From reading other posts, I thought there would be one and was looking forward to finding out the date of PIR. Maybe I misunderstood the process? Can someone please help me?

I received the form letter within ten days of my son's departure.
The PIR iniformation doesn't come until he is closer to graduation, like 1-2 weeks before. My son in training now. He left March 26th. My daughter-in-law is still waiting for the PIR information. We expect it this week. His graduation is May 24th. Don't worry, you will get more information as time goes on. Hang in their, he is in good hands.
I got the form letter the day after the box - but I got the box much sooner than I had anticipated.
My son is scheduled to graduate next week. We have our trip already planned. Today I am having a hard day with missing him. This is the first time he has been away from the family for such a long period of time. I can't wait to see him. I am a little worried about deployment. My son is married and has a son, so he says that he may be stationed in San Diego. I'm not so sure about that. For A school he's informed my daughter-in-law that he has to go to Virginia for five weeks. That crushed me, because he will be farther away. My husband keeps telling me that the hard part will be over once he graduates. I'm not so sure. I miss him so much!!!!
Thank you all for the replies. I have been missing my son so much and trying to learn everything has been overwhelming. The support here is so comforting.
As has been indicated, the form letter arrives after "the box"--the average is 10 days after arrival. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will help you to know what is happening an what to expect.
No worries. I did not receive my sons form letter until weeks after his box arrived. it is OK. Be Well
www.NavyDep.com is also an excellent site that has a day by day schedule of what they do at Great Lakes. This helped me because I could see what my son was doing each day and when I wrote letters I could ask him questions about what he was doing. The PIR site for your son's date will be the best group of parents to talk with because they will be on the same ship and division as your SR so you might get hints of what he is doing or friends he is making by checking in with others. This will also get you acquainted with the other parents you will meet when he graduates if you are planning on going to his PIR. These sites have been a Godsend for me, hope you enjoy them as we enter this new phase in our kid's lives.
